K this is GREAT idea ....

and I bet the kids will like to help Mom and Dad with this one ....

Find an Old Microwave .... the Older the better ....

Inside the Microwave is a Powerful Magnet called a Magnetron ..... as a matter of factor theres usually 2 of them .......

Tie a Long rope around one of the Magnetrons ...... (be careful not to get the 2 of them close .... the pull on these will smash your fingers if they get in the way )

Now when you go to your favorite lake take this along with you ..... and slowly run this along the bottom of the lake ......

Who know what " Buried Treasure " you will uncover ..... but hey it will help replace some of those lures you lost .....

And like I said I bet the kids will have a blast helping you " Treasure Hunting "

give it a shot what have you got to lose

PS : it works best with a Boat .... but I imagine it will also work from shore

Heck it might even work better from shore. You have the bank angler and the boat angler. They both lose most of their "stuff" shallow by the shore.

never thought about that way azsportsman

but you right ....

I have heard of people using magnets on giant boat docks. Like they have at Lake of the Ozarks and finding lots of neat stuff. People are always dropping stuff of the docks. I lost my needle nose pliers yesterday on the lake.  ~xyz

I ride the banks on a atv in the fall after the tva starts lowering the lakes to winter pool and ride all winter til they raise it back up to full pool in april or may. I don't have to buy any crankbaits all I have to do is buy hooks and split rings.

If you want some scary-strong magnets, take a look at K&J Magnetics

I've bought from them before for special-needs stuff around my plant. Got some 1" square x 3/8" thick rubber-coated Neodymium magnets. These look innocent enough but they have a 47 pound pull. Enough to pinch fingers pretty good, and everyone who saw them is amazed. I have some of their plastic-coated 1/2" dia neo magnets on my fridge. One small magnet holds my full-sized wall calendar to the fridge.

Look around on their site for the 4" x 2" x 1/2" thick N52 magnet -- 705 pound pull. I don't believe I'd want to have one in the house. The big magnets will wipe out credit card magnetic stripes and can be impossible to release from stuff. One guy put a 2" square x 1/2" thick magnet (354 lbs pull) in his backpack and got stuck to a stairway railing. His girlfriend had to help him break free.

A good source for small neodymium magnets is old hard drives. They usually put one or two in there, and they will pinch fingers if you're not careful.

When it comes to gear-fishing, only use as strong a magnet as you can pull back up to the surface in case it hits something big (like steel pipe or dock anchors).

What if I just tie the whole microwave to the line?

mauro

Aquarium glass cleaning magnets and some aquarium in tank pump mounting magnets are very strong and can be used similarly.   I will definitely try this when the weeds die back.

give a man a fish he eats for a day. But you teach a man to fish and his wife wont see him again.
