I was wondering if there was set angles to place the bill in order to make the lure dive to certain depths. The ones i have been building all seem to dive anywhere from 4 to 10 feet deep with all sorts of odd angles. As you can tell i am new to making crank baits. Thank you for all and any answers i get to this odd question.

good question, we always used trial and error....also, measure the bill angles on your known baits, then tweak it a bit.

Thanks for the answer jav. I have no idea why i didn't think of that before but hey we all have slow moments.

I bought a waker once and hated it never left the surface took a lighter and heated the bill turned the last 1/8" forward about 30 deg and it dives 2 to 4". I smack em up on the canal which is about 3' deep!!!

It's a complex subject.  Generally, the longer the lip the deeper the dive.  The greater the down angle on the lip, the wider the action.  But everything on a crankbait affects everything else.  For instance, on 2 baits with exactly the same body and lip, the one with more ballast will run deeper.  A suspending model crankbait will run about a foot deeper than the same crankbait in a slow floating model.
