Hello guys whats up? I have a 2007 482 nitro  which I just bought 2 weeks ago. The person who sold me the boat had told me that he only ran like 10 hours on the boat, which theres no way to prove that. Before I purchased the boat he started the motor with no problems, when I took the boat out for the first time I had a hard time for it to start which I follow every step that Im suppose to do when you start the boat. After the 3rd time that I went out and drop the boat and had a hard time starting the boat again I gave up and took it to the shop to get the carbs. cleaned out.. is my first time with a boat so any information will be helpfull thank you for your time and have a great day... ~xyz

If  it is an 07 it shouldn't have Carbs.  Were you able to get it to start at all?

luisito

yes i got it to start,  and yes it has carbs. thats exactly what the mecahnic said also, but when he took a look at he was surprised it has carbs. it started, but that was after i bought a carb cleaner and sprayed it a few times. A boat owner from lake tawakoni adviced me to get the carbs cleaned out, he said that that could be the problem.

Yes, if it has cabs they probably need to be cleaned. You will also have to learn what the proper amount of choke is.  All  carbed motors will be different. Might need a new set of plugs too.  :-\

Once you get the carbs clean, I would definately recomend running STABIL fuel stabiler in your fuel. This will help prevent the carbs from being gummed up again.

its a 90 hp mercury and the guy told me that the motor was not started for 3 months. What I think is strange is that whenever he started the motor at his house I dont remember him havning a probem to get in to run, I took it to the mechanic and I hope that the tech is not going to come up with some nonsense repair just to try to get some money from me. Im sticking to getting the carbs cleaned out and I go from there. Thankx for the STABIL fuel stabiler tip which I will keep in mind.

I bet he had already went and started it before you got there so it was warmed up.  ;)

My NX750 had the 2 Stroke 90 Merc on it.  It was a cold-blooded mother every time I had it out.  One thing I did was to drop my motor saver down to prevent the carbs from being under the motor when it was tilted up.  This made a big difference.  I also ran Stabil in mine.  Now that I have an Optimax, I am ruined for life!  Good luck with getting it sorted out.

~c~Ok so I got my boat back on wednesday. The mechanic turned out to be a good one. He called me back telling me that there was nothing wrong with the boat. The only thing he saw out of place was the idle. And he also told me how to work my choke which can be very tricky just like (Shawn) told me. The carbs are not gummed up so I was very happy about that. I  took the boat out the past few days to my closest lake(Waxahachie, Tx) and had a very good time  ~gf.That 90HP mercury kicks ass!!! seriously...... All I need now is to go fishing  v~. I thank all the people that took their time to reply to my post, thankx for the advice.  ;PEP)
