Nice jigs and flies! ~c~ What did you use for the fur strip in the jigs?

bigjim5589

Larry, they're dyed rabbit strips. The rest of the jig material is coyote tail hair or red fox tail hair, some natural colors & some dyed.  :)

Nice! Nothing moves like the rabbit hair in the water and it looks like a little Krystal Flash added in too. You gave me a great idea for some smallie jigs!  :-*~c~ It would be a different look compared to what we throw all the time which is a usually just living rubber or silicone skirts with a plastic trailer. ;D

Yep, there's some flash in there too! I usually add some to my jigs, the top one has some purple holographic flashabou in it, the other two have bronze flashabou in them. I do use krystal flash as well.

These don't need a trailer. I also tie hair jigs without the tail, so a plastic or pork trailer could be added.

I'm experimenting with some other materials too. I'll post some pics when I get them the way I want!  ~shade

I'd be really interested to see what you come up with. There are all kinds of possibilities. I would like to try tying something like yours with the hair extending just a little past the hook bend fished with a twintail plastic trailer. Sort of a finesse jig with a little tail action for clear water smallmouths.

i've got a great helgramite pattern, works like a charm down here on the susquehanna river.  maybe folks here would be interested in doing a swap?
