I am getting a new boat with the E-tec engine.  What has to be done to the engine so it will run on the XD100 oil?  I just found out the the engine has to be set up to run on the xd100 oil.  This kind of threw me for a loop.  I always used Pennzoil syn. in the boat I have now.

Anyone with experience with this please let me know what should I do as far as what kind of oil to run.  Thanks Roger

If you read the book that comes with the engine ,it probably states that any oil that has a designation of tc-w3 can be used, at least mine does.  The 250 HO models have a progressive oil ratio mixing system. The harder you use them the more oil it feeds to the engine. They originally intended to run 100 to 1 oil ratio hence the d-100 but found it was too lean. I use a full sythentic and found it is allright for me. I dont turn over 5800 RPM very often so I think it will work for a long time.

I don't know what size engine you are getting but evenrude makes three levels of oils and the engine should be able to use any of the three. You need to talk to the home office to get an official story.

FOR BEST ENGINE LIFE PROGRAM THE MOTOR TO RUN ON XD 50 AND RUN XD 100.. YOU CAN DRAIN THE 50 AND REPLACE IT WITH THE 100.. YOU WILL USE ALITTLE MORE EXPENSIVE OIL BUT ITS CHEAPER THAN A POWERHEAD.

Thanks for the reply's.  Chris, I actually talked to a friend of mine a couple of days ago and he said the exact same thing.  He is an Evinrude dealer and he told me that his rep told him exactly what you said.  Set up for 50 and run the 100.  Is the 100 that much better than the 50?  Again guys thanks for the reply's.  Roger

I called evinrude this afternoon and talked to a tech. about oil. Like travler said, the HO engines use a progressive system.  There is no changing of settings so you can use xd100. The harder the engine is run the more oil it will use.  Travler was right on according to the evinrude tech.

I think I am going to run the xd100, just a personal thing.  Thanks guys for all of the help.  Roger
