Why get "color" line as oppossed to a clear line?

I was wondering, when getting new line, which color of line is best?  I have seen Pline moss green, suffix smoke green, that cajun red stuff, and so forth.  I have been told that the fish for the most part can't see the line so why not just get a clear line that has no color to it?  Just something that I wasn't too sure of.  Thanks.

clear line is actually more visible then a low vis green line due to the fact that light will refract in the clear line. when fishing fast moving or reaction type baits IMO i dont think it matters as much. if you are fishing slow moving baits like worms or jigs then i think it can play a part. doug

Brightly colored lines make it easier to see line movement.

I fish Cajun Red.  Red is the first color in the light spectrum to disappear as you descend into water.  Hence - it is not as detectable by the bass you want to catch.

ROY G BIV - colors on the rainbow and in order of which disappears first through last.

Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet

In my opinion, I don't believe it matters, except as a confidence thing to the angler. Whether fish can see the line or not, they don't know what it is, or associate it with anything dangerous to them. If they did, the same thing could be said of hooks dangling from a lure. Line color is primarily a marketing thing to get us to buy different lines. However, as Joshawa has said, colored lines can be easier for the angler to see, and see movement in the line, which is sometimes hard to do. Anything that helps us should be taken advantage of.

I use different colored line, but only because I can see them better, and I don't worry about whether or not the fish see them.  ;)

I prefer low vis green because I can see it better and it seems to blend in with the green water im usually fishing.  I catch more fish with it, Both in dirty water and clear water. When panfishing I have a lot better luck with red hooks.
