We are down to the "Colorado Bass Anglers-Final Four!" The cold-front that smacked Colorado, definitely had its affect on the fish, and CBA's Top 8, competing at Pueblo Reservoir, March 29th. The contenders had to dig deep within themselves, with limited time, to make it to the CBA semifinals.

John Santos, new to competitive bass fishing, and his upset of fairly new Jim McCormick, was the surprise of Saturday. After a grueling match, with a 1 hour "Sudden Death", Mr. Santos "flipped" himself into victory lane, proving that even a 'green' member of the "Colorado Bass Anglers" can have a good day! Congrats to John!

Jared Nikirk, one of CBA's finest, lead for 3 hrs 45 min of a 6 hour match. Jared had CBA's 2nd place seed and Colorado's 2009 National contender, Sam Heckman, on the ropes.  Jared fought hard, but got knocked-out of contention by a boat rockin' hook-set, from Slammin' Sam, which produced the winning keeper in the final 45 minutes of their match. Congrats to Sam!

*
Adrian Yeo penalized himself out of contention, (as expected-lol), leaving Bryan Leck "wide open" for an easy cruise to the finish in his quest for the 32 inch tall "Angler of the Year" trophy. Congrats to Bryan!

Larry Krueger was asked to replace Tony Mariani, CBA's 3rd place seed, who was out of town. Larry agreed to be the wildcard and was pitted against powerhouse Greg Gizzi, one of Colorado's and CBA's strongest competitors.

Larry wasted no time with his opportunity and landed a keeper fish, 5 minutes into their match, in Greg's area. Greg returned the favor, 5 minutes into the 2nd quarter, by catching 2 keepers (the CBA limit), on back to back casts, in Larry's area. One of Gregs' fish was not that heavy and he was hoping he could cull it.(replace with a better fish)

The pressure was now on both of them, as they desperately needed another fish to solidify their birth into the semifinals, and time was running out!
Neither accomplished that goal!

At the end of the day, only 2 oz. separated Gizzi and Krueger!

Congratulations goes to Larry Krueger, who was blessed with 1 Giant Smallmouth (5-lbs 0-oz---[ounces off the state record!]), that was enough to "squeak" by Mr. Gizzi's 2 fish total of (4-lbs 14-oz), sliding Mr. Krueger into the CBA Semifinals and one step closer to the coveted "Angler of the Year" Cup!

CBA's Final Four!
