We all know to wet fluorocarbon or mono line before and during tying the knot but,,,,,, next time you tie a knot with braid don't wet it.

I've been doing this for a while and had a friend stop in and share that he also stopped wetting braid when tying a knot.  Why you ask?  The braided line we use has a waxy coating, when we tie a know the friction heats it up just enough to let the knot slide into place and then when it cools it helps hold the knot.

We also agree to leave a longer than normal tag line, just in-case it slips a bit.   ;)

Tying a double overhand loop in the tag end will be help to stop the braid from slipping thru completely.

Yep, I do that as well.   ~c~

hmm,  I've always used a polymer knot.  Never had an issue.  I do leave a tag end pretty much as long as anything else

ditto that 'loomis...never had an issue with the palomar either...

I know some ok maybe a lot of folks like that knot, but I just hate it.   :embarassed:  Nothing rational about it but dang I hate that knot   lo

I use the palomar for mono. flouro and braid.  Works good in all applications and pretty easy to tie too.  ;D

I like a double san diego jam for braid, and if you get really paranoid about the knot slipping, a drop of superglue where the tag end come out of the knot has been more than sufficient for me.  Superglue will eat through mono, but doesn't seem to harm the braid one bit.

I have fished the clinch knot for ever!!...Never had a need to change..
it has allways worked for me..Time is critical with the bite on, so, I want to tie the fastest, most reliable knot I can..I guess if I had been using another all these years I could do them as fast too...

Great post Fogy. I always tie the way you explained, but I never tried the knot in the tag end.....will have to try that one for a little extra security  ~c~

I like to melt it, leaves a little ball of line at the end that won't slip through.

I also use the palomar knot for braid and wet mine just to be safe  ;)

Don't have trouble with it slipping through but it's a confidence thing for me and I always do this. Great post Fogy, always known this just never thought to post it  :-*

I also use this to tell me when it's time to cut off a couple feet of old line and start fresh. When it won't slip easily, cut about 3 feet off and start again :-* even braid starts to fray a little and will cause you heart ache on a big fish if you get over confident with it.

For a little extra added security put a drop of super glue on the knot, it bonds with the braided line and makes everything solid and no worries about the line pulling thru where the bend in the eye and the hook shaft meet either.
