coldfront

Little warm, quite humid.  ESE breeze at about 14-15 mph...water temps 81°F at Wehrspann Lake (Omaha).

Put in, dropped the trolling motor and started working shoreline from the boat ramp headed south...second cast hit a 15" bass on the Toad (Horny Toad)...they were kind of shallow (2-3 feet) and tight to the grass clumps (I'll leave it to the imagination as to what kinds of 'grass' they actually were)...two more blow-ups swinging around the point...hooked one...another 13-14 inch bass.

Couple more on the west shoreline before I got to the road bed.  No more hits/blow ups after that...ducked under the bridge and fished the other side of the walking path riprap...NADA...

Across the creek channel to the south shore...a couple of little blow ups...apparently not big enough to get the frog, but they did get it's legs...and a horny toad without it's legs is kind of worthless...

Ducked back under the bridge, got another just off the SE corner of the bridge...another one in the back of the bay where it swings back East...kept working the grass and getting regular blow ups...most fish were running 13-16 inches.  Ran the toad parallel to the shoreline, but in deeper water and had a big girl explode on it...finally got her in the boat...20" (probably about 4 pounds...pretty healthy, but with the accelerated metabolism, it's hard to put on much weight...)  couple of very nice jumps...ran me into some 'grass'...got her out (thank you Suffix Braid!)...

Kept moving eastward where the grass turns into Tules...found quite a few more fish in there...had 'another' interesting experience...picking out a 'bit' of an over-run, I left the frog motionless for about a minute...reeled up the slack...and there she was...nicely hooked in the corner of the mouth...another 15 incher...this is the third bass I've caught on a dead-sticked toad...I'm tending to see this as not so 'incidental' at this point...

Bite stayed steady until I lost the light...

Ended up with somewhere around 15 fish on the toad in about 3 hours fishing...probably half of the fish were 15-16 inches long...with the one that went 20"...all in all, I live for this time of year...either toadin' in the shallow weedy flats or toobin' the wood on the creek channel breaks...

It might be hot...but so is the fishing.

complac3ncy

Was there wednesday and did pretty well going the opposite way that you did. It was windy with an overcast.
Found alot of fish in the brush right next to shore. No 20'ers but lots of 15's. Went through half a bag of buzzfrogs.
Also caught a few on a 10' worm, and tubes. Partner took a few with senko's.
