CHEAT LAKE Bass Fishing Reports

CHEAT LAKE :

The water temperature near the dam is 84 degrees at the surface, 81 degrees at 25-feet, 71 degrees at 50-feet and 53 degrees on the bottom at 82-feet. Oxygen levels are undesirable for fish below 25-feet. Largemouth bass can be caught off the shoreline in 15-feet of water while using tube jigs. The bass are also holding around shoreline trees and overhanging vegetation. Cheat Lakes has been one of the top lakes for bass fishing tournament success for the past five years.

Wow really Cheat Lake back in the late 70s and early 80s was pretty much dead lol .. from mine run off .. there where some bass etc there but very few. Thats good to hear the lake has made a come back
Fishing is like golf , you don't have to eat the ball to have a good time!

I live near Cheat Lake and it is one of the best bass lakes around.Several yrs back the DNR (Water quality control) started treating the mine drainage that was polluting the Cheat river.The Cheat River is great smallmouth water and the lake holds both sm. and lm. along with perch and a good population of walleye.
