Is #12-or #14 Cajun Red Cast enough?

Is #12-#14 enough for most situations? My favorite line is Cajun Red Cast mono. The place I fish the most is a river that has rock bottom with trees and brush in the bays and banks. Most of the time I use #17 test but I would like to drop that down to #12 or maybe #14 . Do you think that is enough for this area? I really like using plastic toads and frogs or poppers and now and then a tube on a jig.This river has small mouth, large mouth, Walleye and once in a while Musky. The small mouth seem to be the most caught fish on the river and they run anywhere from #2 to #5 and every now and then a bigger one is caught.

Here in Wi i use 14lb cajun red on my spinnerbait and jerkbait rods and dont have to much trouble but i have lost baits to big pike, just the nature of the beast. I also use 6lb cajun for shakyhead and love it. I do carry extra spools of fireline to use, it does have its place. I love the cajun as it preforms better than more expensive lines and stands up better when draging it through rocks, just my 2 cents, good luck fishing.

Thanks Craig, Yes sir, I agree a 100 percent on the Cajun Red Cast.Tried several other top name and expensive brands but I come right back to the Cajun Red. The #17 works great but it's just a little stiffer then I like. The #12- #14 just can't be beat. Soft with very little stretch and no memory to speak of and as smooth casting as anyone could ever ask for.Don't even need a bunch of different rods to fish different baits. This line and a 6'-6" M/H/ M will handle about anything I need for this river.
Now if it would just warm up a little a the rain would quit messing up the river.....I'm ready!

I just wasn't sure how the lighter stuff would hold up. There isn't to many light weights that will hold up on there own against the teeth of a Musky or pike,

I love using the cajun red. I use pretty much it for all my applications when I am fishing.

i just tried the cajun red for the first time..i'll admit it casts very well and almost no memory. i tried it with a jig but i had a heck of a time seeing it above the water. my eyes are still pretty good

. anybody else have this problem?

Today I went down to the river for awhile to cast a few and see if anything is hitting on the surface yet. The sky was bright and clear and bright sun as well. The water was that a pretty green cast and you could see down about 6'. Really clear and beautiful. Anyway, no problem seeing the line on top but in the water with the sun on it, it did disappear just as they advertise.
I'm kind of surprised at how many people don't like Cajun Red Cast because I don't know what more you could ask for in a fishing line. The heavy stuff (#17 and above ) is a little stiff and I would stay away from the red lightening in the heavy stuff too. But the #14 and under is fantastic line. Just my opinion and I haven't tried them all and probably never will in my life time. Guess I'll just stick to the Cajun Red Cast because it works for me!

I use cajun cast alot, and like it.

When you talk about the 20lb class it is right up there with big game, which is my other go to mono.

12 and 14 is plenty good. that is some amazingly good line for as cheap as it is.

It has been my line for a while now but it seems that I am really getting hooked on Big Game green in the #15 area. It has less memory then Cajun Red Cast and just seems much smoother when you run your fingers down it. Cast really great too!, Mike

If you like Cajun and Big game and want a line that is a tad more elastic, but much stronger per LB, you should try Calcutta's Salt Mono, actually a co polomer.

I have 12lb spooled on a couple of reels, and it is almost as limber as braid, and tough as all get out. It might be a little pricey, not sure because it was a gift from a bud, but man it is definitely worth the few bucks.
