Use an old one or buy one and cut into strips or legs they are almost as strong as the old pork rinds, and they dry out when not used but will become flexible again when wet.

good idea and the nice thing is when dry wet it with scent and it should leave a good trail in the water. 

This might work on other thing you want a scent trail and have nothing to aid in it leaving one.
