i went fishing yesterday and spent alot of time fishing my swim baits.  here is what i found.

i spent some time throwing the original basstrix and found that they swimm very well, but only when you use a 4/0 or 5/0 weighted hook.  im referring to the hoks that have a fairly large weight permenantly attached to the shank of the hook.  since they are hallow, they will not swim without the weighted hooks.  and they do swim very nicely when weighted on the bottom !

next i threw mine with a standard 5/0 worm hook with no weight.  with an extremly slow retreive, they swim pretty good with no weight.  once i added some speed to the retreive they would twist around upside down and would not swim belly side down.....

next i added one of the weighted hooks that i used when fishing the basstrix.  now they swam very nicely, but were very heavy.  almost to heavy.  this caused me to have to use a fast retreive to keep them from hitting the bottom.

after some thinking, i went back to a regular 5/0 worm hook, but attached a slip shot/pinch weight to the bottom of the hook.  the little bit of weight was just the right amount to keep them swimming belly down, with plenty of tail action.  now, to me, this was a good thing because i wont have to spend money on weighted hooks. i have plenty of 5/0 worm hooks and plenty of slipshot weights.  PERFECT !!

just in doing a bit of thinking.  maybe another expirment you could do in weighting them.

since your's aren't hollow maybe add a small nail into the bottom of the fish as a ballist weight?  just a thought.

thats actually a very good idea.  from what i found, it simply needs a slight amount of weight on the belly to keep it belly side down when swimming.  a small nail will do it.

im still experamenting on the hollow ones.  in the next few days, i'll have hollow swimbaits, ive got my mind set on it.  :)  im almost there now.

pretjah, i have your address.  i want to show these to a few friends, then im going to send you a few.  id like your review :)

i poured some baits today for the first time.  i think for my first attempt they turned out pretty good.  i poured about 5 of each, a few didnt turn out, a few did.  not bad for my first attempt.

for the senko i made a plaster mold.  for the swimbait, i had a custom mold made.  im still learning.......things will only get better  ;D ~cf ~gf

The lures arrived today. OMG they are awesome they move like a regular fish and just so life like. I was going to show them to my BF tonight but than he will take off to go fishing .Its to chilly and I need him to help me install new comp .

Thanks .  Yes we bought his lures and awesome. We have bought some used stuff from several on this site (classifieds, etc) and everything was great. Its been a ton of help.

We are now set  for Marlin and huge Tuna that is aslong as they can be caught from lake shore lol

Since I've been reading some people saying that one advantage to hand-poured soft plastics is that you can make them softer, I'd assume that "softer" lures would be less dense than "harder" ones, so couldn't you also make a ballist weight in the back by adding a small bit of denser or "harder" plastic into the bottom of the mold?? Just an :-* I had, don't know how practical/feasible it is to actually do, and don't know if it would mess up the action at all or not....

i sent a group of these lures to lorie and her family.  i had a great time making them, and i hope her family enjoys them.  thanks for the kind words.

i truthfully have no intentions to sell these, i really just wanted to make them to provide for myself, family and friends.  but if anyone is interested, id be happy to hook you up ?
