My Stratos 273 Vindicator came with a Lowrance X-49 mounted in the dash.  I've been looking for a used one since I just got the boat, Christmas just past and I still want to carpet the boat so used was the way to go for me.

I found a Lowrance X-65 on Craig's List for $40.00 with mount, transducer and guaranteed to work.  The guy lived about 15 minutes from me.  When I went to pick it up, He had it hooked up so that I could see it worked.

I almost mounted it to the bow with the mount that came with it but I had a plate on the front of my boat and I decided to install it there so that it would match the one mounted in my dash.

Here are some pics of the installation.  Thought somebody might be interested,  I lucked out on running the wiring.  The previous owner must have had a depth finder mounted on the deck because once I took the plate off the wire was already there.

Here is the way the plate looked before installation:

Hole once the plate was off showing the wiring...I added electrical connectors to the power cord and just plugged it in.  I also taped both wires just for added protection.

Next I drew the outline of the depth finder and then measured the cut out portion.

I drilled holes in the corners and then used my scroll saw to cut out the opening.  I also cut a slot in the plate for the wire to run through.  That way I wouldn't have to drill a hole in my boat.

Here is the finished product:

I forgot to get pics of the transducer mount on the tolling motor.  It's just a standard mount with electrical tie wraps holding the cable onto the trolling motor.

Now to take it to the lake and try it out.

mlsa  nice job looks like it was made just for your boat--just a few things that may help ---dont use zip ties on your wire leading to your trollmotor transducer
it causes a break in the wire and will give you bad readings ---- the other is the wire that is comming out of the plate needs to be wraped or a pice of rubber needs to be put around the wire so it does not rub and short out--electrical tape well let just say its ok for some things but it dries out and still lets water in  your hardwear store should have something better just let them know what its for and the enviroment it will be in  wet--cold--hot   just tryin to help

Thanks for the suggestions.  I'll add that to my list for this coming weekend.

What are you suppose to use if zip ties messes up the wire?

fishin couillon  i use good ol 3m eletric tape but im sure if you look hard enough you can find something fancy like go to radio shack and get the spirial wrap  they use to go around big truck mirrors to hold the cb coax wire to the mirror bracket
