Everyone who doesn't already, shoud check your trailer bunks from time to time. I think they are called bunks, the 2 x 4's covered with carpet that your boat slides up on when you load it. I didn't know there was a problem until I went to load the boat one day and couldn't get it to set level. The bunks had rotted and the lag bolts fell out. Should have been simple to see but with the boat sitting on the trailer you don't see them. The problem occurs when you are at the lake and get ready to leave. I was lucky that I had tools and some lag bolts with me to make a temporary repair.......Henry
Take what you need and leave the rest as you found it.

yeah that's a likely story.  I don't know which part makes him sound dumber...the part where he didn't latch the trailer and had his boat jump off the hitch or the part where he lies and claimed his 6 y/o hooked the boat up so it was HIS fault... :fishy
If you build a ramp...I will come...

This is a good tip and one that we all needed to hear, you'll never know when this could happen to you. The bunks could actually fail whilst on the road on the way to the water and could cause a serious accident.

~b~ A couple of years ago I saw a trailer with a big cruiser loaded on it jump off the ball at KY Dam ramp. The boat was about five feet from the water when it happened.  The boat had been in a slip for a while and they were taking it home.  He had put the wrong draw bar on, it had a smaller ball for a different trailer.  Just lucky it happened there instead of at 70 mph on I-24.  It did tie up the ramp for a long time.

In a pinch, a stick of driftwood and a couple of really heavy duty Zip_Ties will get the job done.  You can bet that the "U" bracket will penetrate a hull in a heart beat if you don't do somethng about it.

Remember, Duct Tape, Zip-Ties and baleing wire are your friends.  Keep them in a place of honor like under the seat of your truck.

Anybody ever tried using TREX for bunks...seems like it would keep the rotting issue out of the equation

Where are we going...and why are we in this hand basket???
