Not sure if this is a tip so much as a lesson learned! I dropped my fly reel in the the river last week (outside temp was about 15) and it froze quickly! I was not able to wind the line back in or strip line. I had to de-rig and put the reel, spool and line in an internal pocket for a while as I tried to stay warm. I guess the tip is to carry a plastic bag and a hand warmer for incidents like this...

Where are we going...and why are we in this hand basket???

I'm thinking that if the outside temp is 15, I'm sitting in the truck until it gets warmer.

However if I every do I'll keep this in mind, great idea.

I'd never really seen snow until I went to the Berkley plant in Spirit Lake, IA for a training session.  I threw my first snowball at age 63.

Things I learned about living in the north that week:
1.  You don't eat the yellow snow.
2.  You don't walk on black ice.
3.  Beer doesn't freeze if you drink it fast enough.
4.  The Yankees won the "War of Yankee Aggression" because you gotta be tough to live up there in the winter.

I don't do cold very well.  Bass are bedding all around here.  I watched a 15# plus Bass on the bed yesterday in 72 degree water.   I saw at least 30 in an hour before I got too cold and went back to the truck.  I should have had a long sleeve shirt instead of a Tee shirt.  Several of these Bass were over 10#.  I never made a cast.  I don't believe in fishing beds.
