When pleasure fishing or tournament fishing, how long do you keep your fishfinder on? Will it burnout over a period of time if left on too long. I guess it's much like a TV??? I'm sure there built to last.

I usually leave mine on the whole time I'm on the water.  The GPS/Sonar mounted at the console is turned on when I get to the ramp before launch so that it can pick up the position.  The sonar mounted on the bow is turned on when I first put the trolling motor in the water.  From there, I don't turn them off until I'm back at the ramp.  I have been using Lowrance and Hummingbird for about 15 years and have done it this way with no problems.

You will replace them as seriously obsolete long before they will die from being on. There are other reasons they can die, but being on is not one of them.

That kind of equipment is ment to be on all the time you are out.

All of my equipment was on all the time and when I sold my boat it they were still going strong, and that stuff in my boat was in there when I bought it.
