Just bought a new 178c and just love it.Well, all except one thing, first time I used it I had the screen to fog up a little. After the fog cleared and the sun came out,it cleared and has not done it since.Yes I have used it even in a small rain shower and nothing happened. It was a closeout model, with full warr.Should I send it back,or was this something that can happen at times?

I have one on the front of my boat. It should not do this call Garmin Tech Support.

Sounds like the seal around the screen is bad... I would call the tech support as well.

I knowit's new and all, but make sure you never use alcohol-based cleaners on your screens.  This would include Windex.  It will ruin your seal and you'll get a fogged up screen.  Since it's new, if they won't replace it, you could return it to the store you bought it at.

I think you mean ammonia, and you are right - you will be SOL! I paid some good money for my boat to be detailed once, and although I can't prove it I am sure they used windex on my dash unit to clean it... Next trip out I started noticing the screen fogging up and shortly after, condensation building up on the inside of the unit.

Buzz is correct; it is ammonia, not alcohol.  Duh!
