I have an older Lowrance X65 on the bow of my boat as my trolling motor depth finder. It works but I am unable to get an accurate depth. It always flashes some crazy depth that I know is not correct. The bottom line is never far from the top line.  Just wasn't sure if any one had any ideas that might help figure this unit out? Thanks

You might try unplugging the transducer from the head unit and cleaning the connections there.

Did this all start suddenly? Have you hit the transducer on any rocks or anything lately? Has the transducer cable been pinched, cut, or abraded? Do you have a solid 12Vdc going to the head unit?

Just some thoughts.

Thanks for the info. Its been that way since I purchased the boat. As I looked at the transducer and the wire going into it, I have noticed a small cut. Not sure if its much past the out cover or not. I will look at that as well as doing the plug cleaning.  Thanks once again.

Do you have a second finder on the boat if so try turning it off.  I know in certain waters my two units would mess with each other.   The bow unit would show crazy depths even though you could see the bottom it would say things like the depth was 76 feet in 4 feet of water.  This may or may not be your problem but it is certainly worth a try.  If not contact the manufacture they may be able to repair the unit for you.
