Ive never owned a sonar or GPS unit but i am fixin to buy one. I have 500.00 to spend on it and I Would like to know if anyone could point me in the right direction.Ive decided on a sonar/GPS combo but am unsure of which one is best for beginers and weather or not to mount in the front by the trolling motor or by the steering wheel. Also what would be a good inexpensive locater for the front if I mount the gps in the steering section?
    Hope someone can help!! Thanks

Welcome to Ultimate Bass PawPawh. I just ordered the Humminbird 595C combo w/gps and the Navionics Hotmaps card. Should be getting it any day now, and I'll post how it does in a couple weeks once I have tried it out. I was in the same boat. No pun intended. It looks like a good unit. Color screen, built in base map on the gps, and the price was right in your range, $499 + $50 mail in rebate.

I've got the Lowrance 520C on the console and the 102C at the bow. I've been extremely happy with both units!!
