I got my new Lowrance 522C and i need Ur help mounting it, what will be the best place for it, on the transom, is it on the higher step or lower, i want to  set it up and leave it, not drilling  more and more holes finding the best location, if you got any pictures that will be awesome....

really depends on what info your transducer is gonna send.  i.e.  temp/speed in the transducer does no good if its mounted inside...or if you have the hummingbird side scan that needs to be inside.  Is it just a depth transducer??

Coonhound

If you want it to work for depth while running it will have to be on the lower step or inside.

T1a, the Hummingbird SI ducer needs to be outside. I have mine on the upper step. I wanted it there to protect it, but in doing so, it doesn't get a signal when i'm running since it's about two feet out of the water.  ;D But, the SI ducer does have to be outside the boat to work.

Well, I want it mostly to read depth while running and running fast, temp should show while fishing and it is a Lowrance ducer
high-speed, transom-mount 200 kHz Skimmer transducer with built-in temp sensor and up to 60ยบ of fish detection coverage

Your right Coon..I was thinking faster than what I was typing...That what I meant..OUTSIDE for the humming bird  ~b~ lo

anyways you really can't go wrong with putting any of them outside.but its exposed and may have issues if you slide off a stump and whack it..looks cleaner and neater if its in.  Just make sure its low enough so when your running on pad the its below the water to read.  If its level with the surface when reading you will probably get some interference.

Gotcha T1a  lo

Jdaddy, mounting ducers on the Triton's lower step scares me. Dad has his there, but still. I keep waiting for him to knock it off on something when he's fishing slow.

My in dash Lowrance is in the hull, with the temp sensor on the outside. Can you buy a seperate temp sensor so you could put it in the hull?

yea, i guess it will be nicer and cleaner in the hull, i can get the minn kota temp sensor for the out side.
Ok, so where inside, do i need to lift the metal cover where the oil sits and somewhere there or what, also what is the best thing to bond it with.

T1A

yep below the plate is the best place.  Make sure the area that your going to mount it is clean and free of any greases and whatever else is down there and the most flat level area.  I have seen them fiberglassed, epoxyed, and 5200 3M'd in.  I have done the 5200 method and have had no issues.  Make SURE you get all the air bubbles out of whatever you mount it in.  Or you can come down some friday nite to the garagemahal and we will show you how its done  ;) ~beer~

I just looked at the rear on the left side upper step there is a place looks like ready to mount a  ducer.

Jdaddy

sorry, lower step right beside the livewell fill in hole

Coonhound

That's probably exactly where it needs to go. When i get home tonight i'll look to see where mine is mounted.

I don't know about that one.  I have never seen that indent on the hull before partly because I never looked for one.  I know that was not on my 98 TR-19.  I wirth ya and assume thats what it is for.

Jdaddy

Well i ended up installing it inside, i'll see how good/or not it works tomorrow and go from there, ;D
