Went out to a new place to fish this afternoon / evening.  Beautiful river, with some good fish in it....tidal, so it was kicking my rear alittle trying to figure them out some.

There was some boat traffic out, people sking and wake boarding, but for the most part being curtious of others.

But while I was out trolling and casting along the channel break on a point, a couple of ding-bats in SEADOO boats come screaming down the river at what I estimate about 70ish.  They were haulin.  They passed so close (within feet and the river was kinda wide at this point) that if I hadn't been paying attention when they passed, their wake would have thrown me from the front of my boat.

Just a reminder that you can do everything right, but all it takes is some stupidity on someone elses part to ruin your fishing trip.  Good luck out there and keep your head on a swivel while fishing.

Never can tell what the other guy is going to do. ~b~  I always were my kill switch lanyard when running the big motor, I got to think what happens when I have the trolling motor in constant and something causes me to go overboard? No way I can swim fast enough to catch the boat. They need a kill switch for the TM :-*

Joe Thats GREAT idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and it would be very simple to add a kill lanyard to the TM, just get a kill switch with landyard and wire it into the ground side of the TM so if pulled it would break the ground and it could be mounted right in the panel up front and maybe get a little longer lanyard and hook it around your ankle so you would still be able to move around the front deck, Joe you should post this in the tips!!  ~c~

Unfortunately not quite that easy. That TM is sucking some serious current and a standard kill switch would release the magic smoke almost instantly. It would have to operate a relay or solenoid of some type. What we need, and I would sure buy it, is a kill switch that is designed just for TMs. 50 to 60 amp current capacity. It is a fabulous idea because I frequently run the TM "constant on".
The world is full of people who can hear a loud bang, feel a sharp pain in the foot, notice smoke trickling out of their holster . . . and never put it all together

Glassstream15 your are correct!!! But this still can be done for fairly cheap ,with a kill switch ,relay and a ford type solenoid, just use the kill switch to activate the relay to power 12 volts to the solenoid,, ,,and like i said before i would install this on the ground wire ,i will try and get a drawing and of it and post it

So what are you all going to do when fighting a fish and need to move around the boat and the kill switch pops off and than need the TM due to current or wind?

Wireless?  :-*

It has to be kept within a 10 foot range of the receiver. Just a thought.

Like i said use a longer landyard, I just measured both of mine on my 25 yammie and there 48"(and yes i use both on my boat) so if you used 2 of them togather that should be enough to let you move about the boat freely, or get a landyard for a surf board and cut it to the length you need, and another thing i have tought of is to mount the kill switch in the deck just behind the front seat pole to give it you more distance to move around the boat,,i will get the drawing posted tonight ,,Joe wireless sounds great but i think the cost would be a lot more.

I think wireless would be great and someone like MG or MK could build a Bluetooth rig for well under $100 if they wanted to. And that would give 20 to 30 foot range and allow you to move anywhere in the boat with no problems. A solenoid rig would probably cost $40 to $50 to put together using a constant duty marine grade solenoid. And anything less than marine rated, constant duty might be dangerous.

JMNSHO &, of course, YMMV
