Dont break yout trolling motor prop.

I started using this tip about 4 years ago.

Go to home depo and pick up a small aluminum rod the same size as the shear pin in yout TM prop. They come in 36" lengths. Aso pick up the smallest copper tubing cutter you can find.

Cut a peice of the rod the same length as the shear pin that comes with your TM. Slide the rod in the prop shaft and center it, and with a fine tip sharpie mark where the rod exits the shaft on both sides.

Remove the rod and using the tubing cutter score each mark all the wat around and about 1/4 the diameter of the rod deep. Now put everything back together and have fun fishing.

What the scoring of the rod does is it allows the new aluminum shear pin to break more easily. This will save eve the most fragile TM props.  It still lets you power through weeds but the first stump/rock thats hard enough to break the prop will shear the soft scored pin.

I bought a new TM last week and didnt change the pin out and the first stump I hit yesterday snaped off one of the blades.

With that one rod you will make enough shear pins to last for years. 

This works better than the cut hook method and they are small enough to fit 10+ in a spare compartment in your boat or tackle box.
