I know some of you use the Stand Out hooks, here is a neat little trick , When using a swivel it places the added knot below the look , so you don't have to worry about that extra knot failing, loosing your fish. It also will increase the action of your lure when the line tightens against the weight,, It's no Wiggle rig but it does help catch more fish drop shotting

it took me a couple of times reading this to figure out what you are saying. by leaving a long tag end when you tie the knot and pull it through the eye you only have one knot. so if you get snagged and it breaks you lose hook and sinker. where if you just tie off to both or use a swivel you only lose the weight. is that correct? if so that is a great idea. i have just been running the tag end of the line through. that being said i should use a lighter line on the bottom so if i do get snagged it will break before the main line. why didnt i think of that before? doug

What you have addressed with the lighter line so the weight can break off if it snags, you don't even need the Swivel,  I "think" I show that somewhere on my web site,  but You figured that out entirely on your own just from seeing the two knots


Personally I have always used drop shot weights that cut the line before the line breaks above the hook.

What I was trying to show, is when your drop shotting, and using a lure that twist your line, you can slip a swivel over the point of a StandOut, and into the eye, instead of adding a swivel up the line , then having a knot above and below the swivel, then one to the hook,, this method actually only requires 2 knots verses three, and still only one knot between the reel and the lure.

It also adds action to the lure, when using a StandOut hook, when the line comes taught between the rod tip and weight, it makes the hook snap out to a right angle, putting a little snappy action to the lure,, with this swivel at this location, it allows the hook and lure to move further out of perpendicular to the line, thus much more movement when the lines comes taught forcing the hook back into that standing out position.

i just started using these this year and as with all new things testing and learning to do new things takes a little time. what size swivel are you using or mostly use for this? it also seems by using these i have now added three ways to fish with it. the suggested way, your way and the way it thought you were talking about but wasnt  . doug

I use the smallest one I can get, that slides over the barb of the hook size I'm using, so the size of the swivel varies to the size of the hook

There are hundreds of ways to use most things in fishing, finding the best one, for the right conditions, is what wins tournaments :-)

The instructions on any product can not cover all it's applications, most only put one, in the instructions, and many times, not the best one. Fishermen figure out the others, and many past these on to their friends.

Sounds like you have your own tip in there somewhere

What I do is tie a knot in the line just about 3 inches above the weight if the lead gets hung it will break where I tied the knot and I save the hook and fish.......
