This is more for the john boat guys or the bass boat guys who run seperate batterys for there trolling motor.

I have been on the water many times and my trolling motor battery go dead. I had a friend who told me about a folding solar battery charger he uses in his rv. So I did some research and bought a 12 volt one that fold up nicely and will fit into the side pocket of my tackel box. All I have to do is unfold it and hook the battery clamps up and while im fishing it charges the battery. I can fish all day 10+ hours using the solar charger.

I would like to post a link to the one I bought but since Im new I dont know if that is considered spamming or not. So I will wait for the ok from a mod or admin.

Thanks for the tip. Im a John Boat guy, and I would rather pack along a small solar charger than the extra battery I usually bring. This will be a nice way to shed 40 lbsor so.

Cheers,
Matt

I should add that they cost just a bit more than a midgrade deep cycle. The one I bought was around 120 bucks but it sure beats lugging 2 deep cycles to the water. I built a small platform out of plywood and covered it in green marine carpet to hold the charger flat. I also cut a cupholder hole out to hold my drink in the same platform. It sits right over the battery and lets the charger lay flat and has enough room to let me lay my scales, worm bag or a small single tackle box so there all within arms reach. Makes things alot easier.

Reservoirs around here are electric only, so I have a plethora of batteries in my boat.  5 to be exact.   :shocking:   4 batteries hooked up to a switch so I can change between one 24 volt series of batteries to the other 24 volt series of batteries, and the fifth battery to run two depth finders and the recirculation on the livewell.  It's just about the only option when you are running your TM on high for several hours a day as a main source of power to get from one side of the lake to the other.   :'(  I know, the extra weight of all those batteries do not help, but it is necessary.

They make 24 volt models too. There a little bit larger than the 12 volt models but can charge a rv's 24 volt array in just a few hours.

Oneslowz28 as long as the link goes directly to the manufacturer's site, I don't think there would be a problem with you posting it, but just to be sure you should send it to the moderators of this board, Couchtater or hesjustbassin. To do this, click on their name at the top and bottom of this message board where they are written in blue font, and then either e-mail the link to them, or send it in a personal message, with a brief explanation of this post to bring them up to speed...

I looked at the 12v model at BPS yesterday.  $34.99

Oneslowz28

I tried the BPS 12 volt one and its more of a slow charge modle. The more expensive one I have will keep my batt charged all day running on high 1/2 the time.

good to know cause I was planning on giving them the next extra $35 I had

Oneslowz28

Glad I could help. Im not knocking the BPS one for slow charging or for charging cell phones or stuff like that but the more expensive ones do better maintaing a battery while using the trolling motor frequently.
