Guys, I tie my own jigs for fun and maybe someday, I will sell enough to pay for my "habit"! (yeah right!) anyway, I have looked high and low for a good source of round rubber in nauiral colors like olive, brown, green, etc. If any of you know of a good source, I have tried Barlow's, Stamina and all the other "usual" component suppliers, please post here or e-mail me ! There may just be a jig or two in it for you!  Thanks! :)

Yes, thank you. I went to those sites, and a few other fly tying sites and found some rubber. I am not sure how they package it yet, in small strips or 3' strips. I would like to find a source where I can buy it by the pound to take advantage of bulk pricing. I'm a cheapo! I admit it!
Senkosam- I read one of your posts where you stated having enough rubber to last you a while. 200 feet I think you said. THAT is what I'm after. I don't mind buying white if there is any way I could dye it! I use RIT dye to stain my wood arrows, I wonder if that would work? Thanks for the help guys!

Terry Sam is in and out, you might try emailing him. Find one of his posts and check the icons at the bottom of his information to the left of the post and you will see an envelope it should be a link to his email address. I hope you find what you are looking for, if so let us know what you come up with.

Indeed I did. I called Living Rubber on the phone today and they are going to be sending me a 2006 Catalog as soon as it comes out this summer! I am very thankful for your help!! ;D

I am suprised that the Living Rubber folks didn't have what you are looking for or couldn't get it for you. I know they do custom colors but it is a little pricey because you have to buy more than on man could use in a life time to make it worth it for them. But I honestly figured they would have it. We used to get it from Lure Craft a few years ago, have you tried them yet? Another place we used to get it threw was Jan's, just some more ideas for you if you hadn't tried them yet.

I have bought some brown from Lurecraft. I don't know where they get it from, but it is quality stuff. Thanks again!

Just out of curiosity why do you prefer the round rubber versus the silicone stuff?

I don't know if he listed it in the first post or not but he emailed me the other day and he did hit that one as well. It really suprises me that the old standard round rubber material is so hard to find now. I did some checking with sites I visit and he is right they don't carry it  :o

There's another one but I'll have to do some digging to find the card. Silicone is becoming the way I guess it's because were lazy and living rubber is a little tougher to take care of.  lo

Thanks guys for your advice and replies. The guy at living rubber enlightened me as to what is going on in the rubber world. I do like silicone skirts, it's just that I had MOST of my jig bites, last year, on round rubber. I like the jigs I get from a guy north of me(near Fort Wayne), but I plan on tying a little different style jig than he does. I will still buy from him as need be, but if MY jig catches fish as well as his does, I won't be. He makes another style of jig that I guarantee, few people have seen, and I have an order in for a dozen or so! Thanks again!! :)

Terry can you tell us what makes his Jigs so different and what kind are they? A little more info would be helpful thanks.

Terry there's a lot of jig fishermen here, I'd bet they'd like to see a picture of these "different" kind of jigs...any possibility? ~shade

A jig is a jig is a jig.... there are just so many ways you can make a jig. Different head styles hooks, methods of attaching your skirt, etc. Brian Smith just has a way of making round rubber come alive. I can't explain it. I just know they catch fish. I proved this point to myself AND my partner last year. My goal is to use a different head design and hook, to try and create MY ultimate jig! I may sell a few along the way, but my main goal is to make a jig that fits MY style of fishing. If I can't get r dun, I know the guy who can. The other jig Brian makes is a well kept secret, and most would laugh when they laid eyes on it. IT CATCHES FISH!! ~c~
