Black Flies - Ouch!!

Black flies can be a nuisance to say the least - and their bite even worse.  Learned this little tip from an old-timer at a favorite fishing hole.

Have not had to deal with black flies since learning this tip, but he swears it works:  Pine-Sol, put a couple of drops on the bead on top of your cap and put a cotton ball's worth in each corner of your boat and the black flies will vacate the premises.  Seems they don't like the smell of Pine-Sol all too much.  Give it a whirl the next time you run into this problem.  There may be other remedies out there - would appreciate hearing about them too.

We call them hore flys here. Never heard the pine sol thing. I just usualy hit them with my hat.

We call them the provincial bird of Ontario up here.
I find when they are bad the only thing thats keeps em away is the Muskol liquid.
The only other thing that can save you is having someone who uses Avon skintastic or OFF with you. Theree is nothing like having fresh bait to keep the flies off you
