                                -        Volunteer Instructor for Casting Kids.
                                -        Pond Clean-Ups with the Jr. Pro-Formance Fishing Team.

                                                                 Hobbies

I am dedicated to many other things than bass fishing. When I am not bass fishing, I am usually:
                      -   Spending time with my family and friends. My family and friends are a huge support system for me.
They back me up in everything that I do and I love them for that.
                      -   Drumming. I have been drumming for a little more than 3 years and enjoy
Drumming to Rock, R&B, Old School Hip Hop, Jazz, and Country music.
                      -    Soccer. I have been playing soccer for 9 years. So far I have played on 3 soccer teams.
I have been scouted to play for travel soccer teams a few times but decided that travel soccer would be to much of a
commitment for my family and me. Last fall, I decided to try out for the Varsity Soccer Team for Alice Deal JHS.
67 7th graders tried out for the team and I was one of the 3 that made the team.
                     -     Tying Flies and Pouring Soft Plastics. I am a fly-fishing addict. I started fly-fishing when I was 8 years
old and I absolutely love  it. I started tying my own flies a few years ago and I have became quite familiar
with the tying patterns for a lot of flies. I recently started pouring my own soft plastic stick baits.
The baits that I have poured so far look very nice and I cannot wait to get them in the water.

                                                                     Visibility

I think that I am very visible for my age because:

                     -   Internet Sources. I am a frequent messenger on many high profile fishing
Websites. Every post that I make on websites cleary states my sponsor's
name and the link to their website.  The websites that I contribute to are:
                           -  North American Fishing Club Bulletin Board

                   -   Volunteer Work with Casting Kids and other fishing projects. My tournament shirt is worn at every Casting
Kids program and every  project that I volunteer for. My sponsors can very easily be viewed on my tournament shirt.
                   -   Last Summer I had an article written about me in a local newspaper. The article discussed my experiences with fishing in the pasts                         and my dreams for the future.

How I Can Represent Your Company

Since I am a youth angler, I am kind of limited to what I can do to promote your company's products but I will try my hardest
to promote business for your company by:

                                    -     Recommendation of your company's products to fellow anglers.
                                    -      Displaying your company's logo on my tournament shirt.
                                    -      Appearances at seminars and on radio appearances.
                                    -      Work at your company's booth at local fishing expos.
                                    -      Display a respectful and helpful attitude towards everyone, on and off the water.

Thank you for your time that you have taken to look over my resume. I hope that your company would consider a small sponsorship with me. If not, I would like to hear your opinions on my resume. From,

Holden -

Great start on the resume.  The important first step in building a resume is getting words on paper.  What follows is arranging those words,  changing those words, and in some cases adding some words to make the best possible impression on a potential sponsor.  You have accomplished the first step (often times the hardest step) and I see the makings of a very good resume.  ;)  You are one busy Jr Angler!!

The most important words in a resume is your first and last name.  I'd build a header at the top of the page with those words in bold and add some contact information.  I wouldn't add that info here though unless you want everyone on the www to know how to get a hold of you, but I would on something sent to the potential sponsor.

Picture - you may want to add a professional looking picture of yourself in one of your successful moments in bass fishing (award presentation, holding a nice bass, wearing your tourney shirt, etc).

Opening sentence - what follows your opening sentence isn't really what you are offering a company, it is information about you.  What you are offering comes down the page a little ways.  Example - My name is Holden Roberts and I am a 7th grade Junior Bass Angler from the District of Columbia.  I would like to represent Company XXX locally, regionally and nationally.  Locally through my community related events, regionally through bass tournament participation, and nationally through tournament participation and internet related activities.

Length - I always ask myself how I can shorten and still convey what I want to convey.  Fishing accomplishments - I'd put in chronological order - most recent first - earning Rookie of the Year honors may be a great place to start.  Standardize - start each bullet the same - with year - some list year at end of bullet and some start with year up front.  (2007 - Rookie of the Year Pro-Formance Team or 2006 - Personal Best Smallmouth 4lbs 3oz)  Academics - what I see is 7 classes and a 3.57 GPA on a 4.0 scale (a way of shortening, yet still conveying that you are one smart junior bass angler on the road to future successes).  Are you on the honor roll?  The starting striker bullet is not academic so drop it to hobbies or make Athletics topic.  Community Service - good bullets - maybe shorten the first to Volunteer work with Chevy Chase Pres Church as sponsor probably does not know what Hearthstones and Firesides are.  Impression - this kid gives some of his valuable time to others.  Hobbies - I'd shorten to one bullet per hobby (- Drumming to Rock, R&B, Old School Hip Hop, Jazz, and Country Music, - Alice Deal Junior High School Varsity Soccer - Starting Striker, etc.)  Impression - this kid is not only smart, but multi-talented too.

Well - that is a start - all I have time for right now - will come back to it later.  One quick thing I see lacking with follow-on is lack of numbers.  Example - Ultimate Bass - # of posts you have made and number of monthly hits UB gets on the www (numbers are a measure of just how active you are on these forums - and how active the website is which lead to potential "impressions" made while representing a company).  Remember - this is just the first chop - you may want to make several more before sending out.  Each chop should change the resume less and less.  Great job so far.  :-*
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small.

Holden,

It's really refreshing to see someone with so much enthusiasm that has not yet been corrupted by the business side of fishing. That resume is excellent and just needs a few tweaks here and there. Swede gave you some excellent suggestions and if I could add one or two. The first being the sentence you have in the what i can do for you, it's negative. They know your a youth and that you are somewhat limited, but don't reinforce that, just list the things you can do.

Two- try to convert the time you spend on the internet message boards to impressions and list the number of people who read your post, like this one has now been read 43 times that s 43 impressions. You have posted 427 times and the avg post receives 200 reads thats 85,400 impressions, Dude thats AWESOME. AND thats just on UB.com figure that out for all the post you do and holy ~xyz. Take a look at teh example resume I posted a few weeks ago (it's actually jsut a couple of post down) and see how it's laid out. IF I can help you don't hesitate to contact me.

Looks pretty darn good if you'll be approaching a tackle company.   ~c~
