I hope this isn't too late, When I was in the Navy, we would use zinc chromate as a primer. It would hold on aluminum where any other primer wouldn't. I perfer the yellow but I had heard that it wasn't "good for you" and was taken off the market. so I guess that the green is all that is left....as far as leak fixin, Again I have to recommend the hot glue sticks that Basspro sells. they are specifically for aluminum boats.......Dave

Dave I've seen you mention the hot glue sticks for patching alum. boats before but I've never seen them before. Does it set up hard or does it stay plyable. Just curious.

I have used them on two different occasions. they are semi-pliable. I could sand them a little but I din't get too rough with them. I wanted as much of it on those leaky old tubs as I could get. The sticks are easy to work with, I used a butane torch, melted the sticks down a little, and applied the melted glue in a circular fashion. Is that pretty much what you wanted to know?............Dave

Oh yea. It wasn't hard like say JB Weld and yet it wasn't soft like hot glue, some where in between...

When my aluminum boat first had some small leaks, I purchaased a product called...Gloveit.   its a marine epoxy-like product that seeps into the crack and small leaks and provides a very water proof layer on the boat.  After its applied I had the boat painted and primed with normal automotive primers  I used grey.  Works very well.

If you can find it try that product.   Good luck :)
