Although it was fairly long and appears that it would be broken out when presented, I thought it was a great lead in to get companies to sit down and talk further with you. Good Job!

Posting it where you did is fine  ;) we just try not to commit on them there that way they stay clean. You can take comments from here and modify the one you have posted in the Resume section  ;) You did it right ~c~

Just curious, I realize that you are looking for sponsors for your local division but what about getting a spot with national exposure for your local sponsor, is that possible some how? Then you could be talking big numbers ;D

Took a look at the resume - took my chop.  Always spell check - Invitaional should = Invitational throughout.  I've made some changes - see below and compare with your resume you submitted on the Resume board.  How are Midwest Sportsman and B.A.I.T. linked - a little confused on that one being that both are used in the resume and me being outsider.  The potential sponsor may be too.  Have reworded a few places throughout - first cut.  Will look at it more later as these things always look different each time you come back to them.  I'd down-size to just one paragraph following your tournament experience and before getting into the sponsorship plans.  A little wordy in that section - I put just enough in the resume to get the phone call to start discussions and contact info.  Moved skills up - it was just kind of sitting there by itself.

Wish I were a little closer so I could fish BAIT - good luck in gathering the sponsorship.

Cover Letter
Dear Promotions Director,

My name is Philip Carver, Director of the Columbus and Central Ohio Divisions for the Bass Anglers Invitational Trail (B.A.I.T.).  My tournament staff and I provide Ohio anglers with a professionally directed and operated series of bass tournament circuits.  Our circuit membership continues to grow at a very rapid pace.  We are proud that this growth is helped immensely by the large number of returning (satisfied) customers.  In 2006, we had a membership base of over 100 fishermen & fisherwomen who took part in our events and expect those numbers to grow in 2007.  We have 44 events scheduled this year and will be helping out with other tournaments as well.  Since getting involved in the bass tournament business three years ago, my tournament staff and I have built a strong reputation with fishermen state-wide.  We are often rewarded with positive feedback and will continue to look for areas upon which to improve.

To feed the continued growth of our tournament trail, we need you, the sponsor.  We feel that our tournament circuits can increase sales for your company.  Through advertising and speaking highly of your products and services we believe that we can make a substantial difference in your bottom line.  Not only through the men & women attending our events, but the general fishing public as well.  We frequently visit and post on many websites and maintain two websites of our own for the tournaments that we direct.  Additionally, we offer many different promotional concepts/plans to satisfy the needs of our sponsors.  Finally - we would love to have the opportunity to talk to you and elaborate on how we can help you promote your business, products, and/or services.  Please visit our website at www.freewebs/cobta to see who we are and what we are all about.

Sincerely,

Bass Anglers Invitational Trail, Central Ohio Division Promotions

Partnering with the Bass Anglers Invitational Trail, Central Ohio Division:
Our sponsorship plans are structured to leverage its marketing potential and grow its tournament trail.  B.A.I.T.~C.O.D.  seeks partner relationships with organizations that understand the considerable business value of community, media exposure, and the pro-environment components that comprise its 'Trail'.  Each sponsorship plan will be customized for the betterment of the partner relationship and suitability to the particular industry represented.

We are anxiously awaiting the start of our fourth tournament season.  B.A.I.T. is a seasoned business entity with considerable angler participation and consumer awareness as the "working-class" anglers' trail.  B.A.I.T.~C.O.D. contends that brand savvy partners willing to invest in its future will reap exceptional business value.

B.A.I.T.~C.O.D. partners gain considerable access to a membership base of over 100 local fishermen and thousands of people over the web. We operate 21 events (?? you said 44 events above) per season between  the Columbus and Central Ohio Divisions .  Partner participation empowers B.A.I.T.~C.O.D to incrementally enhance its team trail experience in a proactive, media-rich manner, which drives exposure to partner products as it maximizes angler participation in Midwest Sportsman C.O.D. tournaments.

B.A.I.T.~C.O.D. will customize sponsorship plans to meet the specific promotional needs of any size company.  A wide spectrum of sponsorship levels begin with having a company or product name everywhere Midwest Sportsman (did you mean B.A.I.T. here) C.O.D. appears, on down to limited-local opportunities that showcase products and build brand awareness at the B.A.I.T.~C.O.D. local level .

Five Popular Levels of Sponsorship:

Brand Partners: Unmatched sponsorship opportunity to have a company logo or product name everywhere Midwest Sportsman (did you mean B.A.I.T. here) C.O.D. appears . Will provide a 6' long X 2' high banner at every event as well as verbally mention your company and/or special promotions/sale events . Provides a 300 wide x 60 tall linked banner on the opening page of the B.A.I.T.~C.O.D. website and/or on a dedicated sponsorship information page to showcase products and build brand awareness .

Tournament Partners: Reward product-specific usage especially when its part of a winning combination. Leverage this B.A.I.T.~C.O.D. sponsorship package into rapid brand exposure, customer reward programs, and expanded media coverage.

Limited-Local Partners: Limited-local sponsorship opportunity to showcase available products/services and build brand awareness .

Web-Only Partners: Web-only sponsorship is well suited to organizations which require a strong internet presence among bass fishing enthusiasts.  This sponsorship provides a 300 wide x 60 tall linked banner on the opening page of the B.A.I.T.~C.O.D. website and/or on a dedicated sponsorship information page.

Single-Event Partners: Single-event sponsorship packages vary per event, participation requirements, and cost. They can include flyers, posters, banner advertisement, web ads, and award sponsorships.

For more information on any level of sponsorship, please contact the Bass Anglers Invitational Trail, Central Ohio Division Promotions and Sponsorships Director at midwestsportsman@insight.rr.com.  We appreciate your continued interest in B.A.I.T.~C.O.D. and look forward to discussing how partnering with us can work for you.

Instead of "Cover Letter", I would go with "Proposal" to explain the sheer length of the letter.

Looked at the original resume again - I don't think he will actually be writing "Cover letter" or "Proposal" on paper.  I think that was meant for us here as description only.  If it were to be on paper - I'd use your suggestion.  Changed both descriptive titles to blue in color to make them stand out.

I really appreciate the input everyone . This has been an experience to say the least . I have also been given help by some companys as well . They have told me to keep things short and to the point . Either they are looking or they are not  and  will respond  to something that does not take alot of their time to read . I have changed things around some , keep those replies coming .

Since you are using the info B.A.I.T. provides, I would break it down to the first page explaining you and the division you run so they can see the numbers that will be of benefit to them.  The following pages should be the info on types of sponsorship plans.  I am also wondering if these extra page ('s) should be left out of the original proposal so you can follow up with these after a company shows interest.  The smaller the company, the less of this info they will want to see up front.  It's cool to be prepared but you also do not want to blitz them with info they could care less about in the beginning.  Get them on the hook first.

Excellent idea - send first page only - get them to call for the rest.  Common sales technique used in other markets like real estate for example.  Give them just enough info to make them salivate and call - talk to them about the plans over phone or in person - and be prepared with the rest so you can say "By the way - would you like a hard copy of the plans we just discussed?"  That being said - I think the website address should be added to the signature block as well.

Can I tell you why companies want it to be short and to the point?
Because people talk too much about themselves and there organization.  Not meaning to be hurtful MS, just want to let you know that all companies will listen forever in a day if you show them what they'll get.

Believe me, your proposal or intro letter or what have you is magnificent compared to 99% of other anglers attempts.

I just landed a sponsorship deal with Kistler Rods for my sponsorship seminar I am doing the same weekedn of this year's Classic in AL.  The proposal I have prepared is 4 or 5 pages long and I don't fish tournaments.

If you are going to prepare a proposal, give them some meat and potatoes.  Give them something to chew on.  Give them something to look at and go .......hmmmmmmmm.

If you have parted ways with the one company - you may want to change your forum name too - like B.A.I.T.  ~shade  Just a thought.
