Removing a fish hook from yourself or another.  Even if you know how to remove a hook, that person you are fishing with may not.  Keep this in your tacklebox or in your boat, with any "tools" and it may save you time and pain.  Not to mention a dr visit.  Of course if you have any doubts, a trip to the emergency room is always advised.  Have you had your Tetanus shot lately??

I recommend printing this link page.

I have been lucky.  In the 40 years I have been fishing I haven't had a hook injury yet..

In the end, it's not going to matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away.

I wish I could say I was lucky, but I ended up putting the rear treble hook of a silver buddy in the tip of my middle finger. Thank god the water cold to numb my finger so I could push the hook through my finger  :o to cut the barb off.

I have used the string yank procedure to remove hooks from another person. Worked great, already had the hook out and my sister-in-law was asking if it would hurt.

I have been hooked twice, both times in my hand. Cut the hook off and taped the rest of it down and finished the day. When I got home my wife took a pair of needle nosed vice grips and jerked the hooks out the same hole they went in. Hurt too.  :bang :bang

Just got shivers thinking of this.. luckily Ive never had this happen to me, but thanks for the advise  ~c~    I have, on the other hand, snagged birds, pelicans and other birds who chose to tangle themselves in my line and get hooked.. between an upset bird that wants to bite and on lookers upset with you ( like it was my fault  ::) ) ,, using a towel to cover their heads helps to calm them down , while cutting the hook and setting them free. Im getting real good at this practice  lo    The pier at the Skyway Bridge that I like in St Pete, has pictures on the pier showing you how to do this. If you can not remove a hook from the bird, get help! There is always someone there riding around monitoring the bridge and they will be happy to help.  ~c~

Brought in a feisty 2lb seagull off the skyway one time.  It's those dang herons and pelicans that beg for your bait fish that bother me.
