Guntersville 7/29/06 - 7/30/06

This report is for Saturday and Sunday. Saturday fished a new area for me in the mid lake. I had only fished it once before and the morning started slow with only one bite early on a Z-Pop with the fish jumping me. Moved spots from the grass to a point around 8:30 and caught a short on the Z-Pop quickly. Moved to some grass off the bank from the point and had a big blow up in the grass. It was a nice 2+ lber shaped like a football. I made a few more cast and had another blow up on the front side of the grass being a small spot. I had one other coming later in 15-20 ft on a FB Trap. It was also a spot.

Sunday I over slept and got on the water about 7:45. I hit a flat that was 3'and dropped to 6' with the Z-Pop. I had a nice fish blow up on the Z-Pop and got it to the back of the boat reached down and my line snaps. The fish was 12" from me with my lure in the side of his mouth and slowly swims away. It was in the 3.5- 4 pound range, made me sick . I must have had a nick in the line from the grass the day before and I did not retie, lesson learned. I moved on to the best spot of the day and the topwater died. I went to the spinnerbait and had one off of a grass point but it pulled off. I had another good fish about 75 yards down and it pulled off as well. I lost 3 good fish on lazy hook sets and not retying. I still had a great time.

Where in the mid-lake were you fishing?

I stayed at the State Park and fished around Towns Creek. Have you fished Towns much?

I have fished the State Park area twice, both times I was real disappointed.  Fished Town Creek once, and wasn't impressed.  Reason being I guess was the 3-4ft swells and all that dang boat traffic...   I did however get a good pic of Kelly Jordan sight fishing by that old boat dock next to the Island at the mouth of Town Creek.  He was fishing the rip rap next to the dock and he came around the point so we eased our way out and let him fish it.

There is no way a person can obey the boating laws in that area.  Too much traffic weighs heavy in my decision.  Its not the anglers that bother me, all those cuddy cabins and rec. traffic. 

The areas I fish are hammered too, but atleast folks respect the area your fishing (sometimes) instead of blasting thru there like a buncha crazy people.
