So I've been going back and re-watching a lot of Bassmaster reels and footage lately. Has anyone else noticed a lot of anglers will literally run from the front to the back of the boat and back while fighting their fish? Now if you had a lot of slack in your line and needed a quick way to take it up, I can see the short jog being needed, but it seems like it's not a one time thing. The same anglers do it for every fish. Just thought it was a funny observation next to the one angler who had to use the bathroom and got a great bite while using the bathroom. Best part, the camera kept rolling and his confusion of "which rod is more important?" added to the comedy. I guess the cameraman has a "Don't take your eyes off the angler" rule.

 lo Saw that.

I have had to make some jogs back and forth, but it was only a few occasions when I had a really good one hooked up and it was headed towards the prop or snags and I needed to move to keep from getting the line cut or wrapped up.

I made a huge (amateur) move in my least tourney when I stepped into the cockpit of the boat to net a bass. Too early. He got to the front of the boat and broke me off on the trolling motor prop. 47 years and that's the first time I've ever done that.

One thought is that these are all viral, younger guys, right? I think they're trying to get away from their computers on the front of the boat. The ones that may or may not cause sterility, cancer, etc. Doing a "deck dance" may help with that.

Just a thought.

The first time I saw someone doing this during a tournament was Ike.  I don't think this is necessary, and all for show.  With the equipment we have today, and all the fast action reels, runnng around the boat is all a show.

There's always been those anglers who put on a show. Playing the fish a lot longer than necessary is still a favorite of some. I once thought the jog from front to back was due to the angler being spotlocked, and maybe that's how it started, but it's obvious that it's mostly just for drama.

I think it all for show also.   Some of them though when using those Spinning Reels and buggy whips for rods use like 8-10lb line with those little jigs and swim baits.  It cracks me up when I see them finally get ready to land the fish and it pulls off or the line breaks.

IMO if they didn't put on that show and just get the fish in there's seems to be a better chance of them not losing it.

I never watch pros fish.

I have caught a few Japanese guys fishing and they all do this odd squat when they fight fish.  almost like a crab walk.  interesting.

There does seem to be a little showman ship going on.  I never understood running to the back of the boat.  That is what your drag is for and if you don't trust that, then back reel with the fish.
