interesting development.  my wife and i have been considering building a cute cabin on our property in NM.  well, now a fire swept thru it.  glad we were slow acting on the process.  my brother will drive by to check it out and send pics.  but according to fire maps, the land is gone.  we tried to reach some of the neighbors, but no call backs.  they have evacuated, i think.

on the home front.  Sonoma County is smoky again.  my favorite local big lake has a fire right next to it.

Joy.  PTSD is a very real thing.  i'll go fishing somewhere this weekend.  gotta keep living my life.

I'm moving from Tucson to the Eastern side of New Mexico next week.  We normally go through Ruidoso and the Mescalero Apache Reservation, but we may have to take the U-haul and boat down to El Paso and then over to Carlsbad and up to avoid this fire.

There's actually 2 fires right now, South Fork and Salt, which have caused mandatory evacuations of both Ruidoso and Ruidoso Downs.  The Ruidoso hospital closed and evacuated this morning, so nobody there now.

Glad you didn't build out that cabin yet, who knows what this area is going to look like after it's all said and done.  0% containment as of this morning and not a lot of natural fire line breaks in the area....

good luck with the move @apenland01

will you be anywhere near Blue lakes?

apenland01

I will be near Ute, Conchas, Fort Sumner and Santa Rosa lakes.  All within an hour and half drive.  Blue Hole is in Santa Rosa, which is the crystal clear spring that scuba divers use for training and certification.  Bluewater Lake is on the Western side of the state, around Grants NM...

It's about an hour or a little more out of Albuquerque.  I've fished it a few times, nice clear water.  It's got a great mix of fish for sure....
