Conditions:

Skies: Partly cloudy/overcast
Wind: 0-10 from the SW
Temps: Mid 80's & Humid!!
No current
Water clarity: Clear
Water level: High!!
Bass boated: 3

Arrived at the launch point a little after 0630. It was pretty dark out. Made short run, and started fishing. The HB frog was up to bat first. The area was quiet. No bait fish or feeding activity anywhere.

Made another run and stayed with the frog. Worked the area for a bit when I got my first strike. Bass swirled on my frog along a grass point. Reared back and connected!
Decent bass.

Kept working the frog for a bit longer and decided to switch to a swimbait. Worked the swim bait along the vegetation for a long while, nothing!

Decided to switch to a small toad. Worked the vegetation again and had my 2nd strike. Reared back, connected!! Another decent bass.

Came across a big patch of pads and sparse grass. Cast the toad into the thick of it, started my retrieve, and the water erupted!! But the big bass missed!! I never set the hook and just  kept swimming the toad. A couple of seconds later, the bass blew up on the toad again!! Waited one second, reared  back, and connected!! Sweet 5.5lb bass.

Made another move shortly after and switched to a chug bug. Worked a rock wall, and the water erupted. Swept the lure and missed!! Kept working the area, and worked a rocky point. As soon the chug bug hit the water, I saw a wake, some disturbance, and my chug bug was gone! Set the hook, fought a nice fish, but lost it in some pads! I suspect it was a nice peacock.

Worked another rock wall, and had 2 more hellacious blow ups that resulted with misses. Doh!! Again, I suspect they were peacocks.

As 11am approached, so did the dark clouds. Booked it out of there before the rain fell.

Tough outing, but fun! Fortunately, I stuck a nice bass today.

Thanks for reading!

Nice going Lou! Sometimes a few nice ones are better than a bunch of dinks!! Wonder how our "cool down" will affect the bite next week? Besides relief from the heat!! LOL Definitely will try it out!
