I have a Minn Kota Ultrex about 4 years old.  No matter how tight I make the length adjustment knob, even using a large pliers, the shaft will slowly move down until it is a max length.  Are there any ways to make an adjustment to hold the shaft from slipping?  Thanks.

Well that's not right  :-\

The collar ought to grip it tightly enough to not let it slip. I'm wondering if it has a crack or something in it and it's not able to keep a tight hold on the shaft. The Minn Kota part # is 2291500. I think a whole new one with the hardware is only $8-$10. Any two piece shaft collar would work, too, but wouldn't be as easily adjusted.

A cheap potential fix is to file down the insides of the clamp (mating surface) slightly to allow it to get more bite.  I'm not sure if that is possible, since I'm not looking at my Ultrex.  If that isn't possible, then wrap some electrical tape around the shaft where you want it clamped and that should help hold it, but be thin enough to allow the clamp to slide...

I put electrical tape on yesterday but will have to wait until I can put the boat in water and try it out for a while to see if it will hold.  Thanks.

I use this trick and it has worked on my last two Ultrex trolling motors.  Get your motor adjusted where you want it, then wrap 2 layers of electrical tape just under the collar/clamp.  Mine has stayed in the same place for over 2 years now.
I knew I shoulda re-tied!!
