Just a question I've been wondering about. If given the choice should podcasts be shorter (roughly 20 min) and more often (weekly) or, longer (an hour or so) and less often (bi-weekly or every 3 weeks).

Or something totally different??? Ideas please!! THX!!!

Mike Cork

I don't listen to many pod casts and generally I do it while on the water and with my bluetooth. So any length is great for me. In general for me it's going to be more about the topic. If you and Drew were hashing out his recent win I could listen for an hour and not realize it was that long. If you were talking about a specific rod, it's uses and why, it would seem hard to have enough to survive 15 minutes. With your skews in both rods and tackle, you could do 15 minute segments once a day and have my attention. Through it a big one once in a while.

We have several podcast guys that will jump in here soon.

My preference would be 30 minutes once a week. But hey, for Dobyns info I'll take whatever you're willing to give us.

Once a week for 30 but would listen to each and every one no matter what. If having any guests I would think longer.

My YT experience has shown me the limited time most folks can pay attention to anything. Or maybe my videos just suck. Anyway, shorter and sweeter is probably better. But Cork makes a great point- content is everything.

While cleaning reels this afternoon I watched ALL of Mercers show where he's interviewing Jason Christie's cameraman, and all of the behind-the-scenes Classic stuff. I'm fascinated by that drivel. Sometimes. Whatever you're choice, best of luck Gary. This 21st Century stuff is hard on an older guy.

I listen to podcasts while I'm driving.  Some are 5 min and others are 2 hours.  Like Dale said, content is everything. Keep it interesting and we'll listen no matter what the length.

For me I would much rather listen to a 2 hour podcast than watch a 45 minute YT vid. I can listen while still doing other things. Part of the reason I prefer a longer podcast is simply so I don't have to look up and download so many different episodes. I think an hour and a half is about perfect

It depends upon the content.  If you can fill 2 hours with good content,  you will have my attention.  Like FD,  I listen while I am in the truck, so I can continue with the same podcast later if it is longer.  I think you need to decide more on a timeline that you can keep interesting and what you can maintain over time.  With that said,  if you put it out there,  I will listen...

This right here.

I might avoid an hour long program unless I have time to finish. I listen to 5 and 10 minute podcasts quite often, sometimes when I need a mental break from whatever I'm working on, spontaneously with the receipt of an email, lunch break, or whenever.

I don't do podcasts because I generally stream live content through iHeart when I'm driving.  If you are talking YouTube videos, anything longer than 10 minutes on a single topic is too long.  If it's an hour video with 10 different topics, then I would watch at night and love that kind of thing...

Thanks guys for the info. Much appreciated!!!!

I loved the 2-hour podcast you did with Hellabass, and never once did I feel it was too long. There was so much great information I kept stopping it to take mental notes and listen to sections again. Please do that again!

I think you nailed it Dale.  how long can be a symptom of circumstances.  the right topic?  moving along and interesting?  most days 15 - 20 minutes is tops.  IF I am on the road driving somewhere with time ... an hour might not be too long.  but those circumstances will be rare.
