Just finished doing some outdoor clean up of items that would be subject to being blown around the yard.  We only have to deal with a tropical storm that will be bringing a bunch of rain to our area.  Winds are expected to have gusts up to 70 but for the most part the sustained winds will be under 30 so not a big deal.  Our area like most low country places is subject to some flooding especially if the rain becomes heavy for any extended period of time.  In addition to a general pick up of the yard items, I have deployed a flood barrier at the rear of the house just in case the ditch out back comes out of its banks.  This happens when we get a lot of rain in a very short period of time.  The runoff just overwhelms the drainage system and water can back up into the yard and comes very close to the house.  We are a 30+ year old community that is having additional homes being built on what was a golf course.  Folks in that area can become trapped in their homes due to street flooding and the retention ponds overflowing.  Normal stuff to watch for during these rain events are snakes and gators that are roaming around.

As the storm moves into North Carolina the rivers will fill up and the run off will arrive in our area in about 3-5 days often flooding the Waccamaw River.  The river has flooded 6 out of the last 7 years so there is no reason not to expect it to flood yet again.  This is not near the house but for the folks who live on the river I am sure they are very concerned at this time and probably preparing their property to secure as much as they can.

Bud, tks for sharing the Storm Prep Work with us..  I have everyone in that part of the country in my prayers.  Hopefully the storm moves more off shore and by-passes yawls place.

Bud, you stay safe over there.

I checked my gutters first thing this morning and made sure I didn't have anything that might blow around.

My generator is gassed up and I have extra fuel, and plenty of food & water, so we're as prepared as we can be.

Now the storm will come ashore as a category 1 hurricane.  This is a bit of a surprise since all day yesterday the forecasters said it would be a Tropical Storm category.  Currently the storm will come ashore between Charleston and Georgetown.  I guess it will be another McClellanville land fall.  Still not a big deal here but as always there are unknowns until it really happens.  Our home has full ballistic windows and doors and out big garage door is also a hurricane rated door.  We will be just fine but tomorrow we will be trapped inside until the storm passes.  All indications are that by 5pm the rain will be all over but some gusty winds will remain but in the 25mph range.  We will just hunker down for a while and hope we don't lose power.

Hopefully it won't cause much damage for you Bud, we're still waiting to hear from the relatives in and around Sarasota and Fort Lauderdale.

This storm has done nothing the weather forecasters have suggested it would do from the beginning. I would not trust anthing they say at this point Bud.

For  us it was:
Cat 1-2 at first and landfall in the Panhandle.
Then Cat 1-2 Tampa on Tuesday into Wens.
Then Cat 3-4 in Tampa wens Thursday.
Then Cat4 Tampa Wens evening into Thursday.
Then Cat 4-5
Then Cat 4-5 and more in the Sarasota area.
Then right before it hits on Wens around 5 pm it is in Ft Meyers  coming right over Winter Haven. (Where I am )
What actually happened was Cat 4, 2 mph from cat 5 at Ft Meyers and south to Cape Coral. Then ended up south of Winter Haven 70 miles over Lake Placid.

They never got it right they just keep adjusting as it happens.

Stay Safe Bud.

The rain bands and tropical storm force winds are now here.  The hurricane is still off shore and expected to make landfall between noon and 2pm.  Bouys in Winyah bay have already reported wind gusts to 85 mph so we can expect our afternoon to go downhill quickly.  High tide at the beach is at 11:24 AM (about now) and the streets on ocean drive in Garden City and Surfside Beach are already flooded.  The causeway to Pawleys Island is already closed due to flooding.   The ditch behind our ouse is still within its banks but more heavy rain is on the way anytime now.  So all in all things are going about as expected.  Electric power has been good but some areas around the beach are experiencing outings for a multitude of reasons.

I have a meatloaf in the oven currently just in case we lose power.  So at least we will have a little bit to snack on if needed.  Besides, I like meatloaf  LOL

So far we're doing fine here. The wind gusts have picked up, and still lots of rain, but for now the power is still on and we're dry.

Looks like the storm is moving inland at this time.  Rain has mostly stopped although there will still be a few lingering light showers until about 6pm.  Winds are still gusty with sustained around 25 and gusts in the low 30s.  Wind will still be here in the morning but Saturday is promised to be a nice sunny and warmer day just a bit of wind during the morning hours.

Our neighborhood did not flood but there are a few small branches down but not a whole lot.  I will be able to put everything back into the yard tomorrow.  I have not seen any other damage in the neighborhood.  We are about 2-3 miles from the beach and I am sure they got it a bit worse than us.  The eye came in about Georgetown and there was significant flooding in Georgetown and Pawleys Island and likely some around here but I have to seen anything about it yet on the news.  We did not lose power and did not lose internet not even a blip.

We lost power here around 5 PM and it's just come back on again.   I had my generator ready so no losses other than burning some gas.

The winds have died down a lot but it's raining again, although a light drizzle now.

Well, we survived another storm.  I'll have some cleaning up to do in the yard, but nothing major.  A lot of leaves & small tree branches.

I pray that everyone else faired as well as we did.

I did hear on the news that there had been no reported deaths here in SC, so that's a very positive thing to hear.

I have to go to Charleston this morning, since Donna is in the hospital there, so we'll see how that goes. They got hit pretty hard, but I haven't heard how bad.

Otherwise, it looks to be a nice day developing here today!
