For me I always check my Life Jackets CO2 cartridges when I buy my new fishing license, which is around the first of June. The cartridges are only good for 5 years from date of manufacture.

Know what if feels like to have one go off? If your cartridge is out of date, it is likely going to still work, so jump in the lake and get a feel for what it's like. Definitely interesting. Don't do it until you have your new cartridge to install  ~shade

Thanks Mike. I have been trying to get an answer on the shelf life. Are the vests shot at the 5 year mark? I guess if they pass the soapy water test they are good to go?

Yes sir, they are only good for 5 years. Likely if they don't have a reason to leak, they will last much longer, but for $20 something dollars is cheap insurance to replace them.
