Which would make the best chatterbait rod in the Fury series, the 705cd or the 733c?

I use my 705CB just fine. It's a 7' MH Action. It has just enough "give/action" to where I can set the hook, but don't yank iy out of the fish's mouth. I can also feel the vibration of my bait and it's contact with grass n stru ture, through the handle.

How far down does the parabolic bend go before it hits the backbone of the rod? I'm not looking for a rod that will bend like a pretzel, I would like it to have some good give so you don't rip the hook out of the mouth but I want the backbone to be about halfway up or so that it can stiffen up and haul the fish in.

That's honestly about how far the backbone does go up it. We have whats called Snakeheads and Clown Knifefish down south here and I've caught a few on it with no issues.

I'll be honest as this is the first Dobyns Rod I've ever owned, but I was impressed that it had both sensitivity without sacrificing any strength.

I know you said Fury series but if you are looking to buy and can spare the few extra $$ I'd recommend the Sierra 734C.  I have the Fury 733C and a Boom Boom Champ 705CB, but I throw the majority of my chatterbaits on that Sierra 734C.

Sierras have a slightly slower tip than other series - soft enough tip to keep bass pinned (even on treble baits) but transitions into the backbone just right for fighting and landing fish.

I know you said Fury series but if you are looking to buy and can spare the few extra $$ I'd recommend the Sierra 734C.  I have the Fury 733C and a Boom Boom Champ 705CB, but I throw the majority of my chatterbaits on that Sierra 734C.

I actually have a Fury 734C but was looking for something a little shorter too as this will double as my skipping rod. As for extra money...as soon as daycare started last fall for my littlest boy that evaporated  .

I tested both rods - I believe either would work but I found the 705CB to be slightly more limber / softer than the 733 . For the 705CB I would use #30 lb. braid + #15 lb. FC leader while with the 733 I would use straight #15 lb. ~ #17 lb. FC . A lot depends on the amount of cover or open water you will be fishing the chatterbait in .

I run a Kaden 735cb for chatterbaits have been more that happy.  This model is very versatile.

I saw that too but it didn't answer my question about the rods I was asking about. I answered that a Sierra wasn't in the cards for me as I don't have the extra money but my original question between the 733c and 705cb wasn't answered by Smallie Stalker.

Of those 2 the 733.  Personally I like a shorter rod and would go with the 703. The whole" pulling hooks out " thing has gotten to be a internet fallacy especially with a chatterbait. The Jackhammer has a stout hook in it. It's a lot more like fishing a swimjig that a crankbait.
They will get behind it and push it but no rod is going to make up for that maneuver.

I totally agree with loomisguy. The issue was the bait tearing away from grass and the goal was to slow the bait down once it came free. There is some validity to loosing fish on a chatter bait because the lead head is allowed to swivel from the connection to the blade and snap.  Fish can pivot the bait once hooked.  The goal is to mitigate those two factors yet have the power to drive a large diameter hook in hard tissue.  I started with a 734C, transitioned to the 736CB glass but found the Kaden 735CB more responsive. Just for context, I throw a 1/2 ounce in most situations and a 3/8 only occasionally.  Just my thoughts.

You will most likely be more precise with casts for skipping under docks , over hangs, etc. using a 7' rod versus a 7'3" rod . You can't go wrong with a Fury 705CB (very versatile) using either braid , co-poly or FC main line (will depend on your reaction time , how hard you set the hook , hook up percentage , etc. when using a chatterbait) . Later you may find a more specific chatterbait rod you like better (more $$) but a Fury 705CB will ALWAYS have a spot in your line up to be used with various crank baits and other treble hook lures making the Fury 705CB a good value and one of Dobyns most popular rods . I have Sierra 733C , 734C , & 735C and when I can find a Fury 705CB on sale it will be coming home with me (again due to it's versatility) .

DC 733C.....OR SA 734C. I own both, and they both work very well with spinnerbaits & chatterbaits up to 1/2 oz. The Sierra 734 is a "tad" more parabolic/moderate in action than the DC 733C.
