I was drawn for a 4 day hunt on one of the central Florida Wildlife Management Areas. I normally scout a few days before my hunt but the gas prices limited my scouting to one day and I didn't hear a thing because of the fog.

On day 1 of the hunt, I blinded up in a swamp that I killed a turkey at before. I had nothing going until about 8:00. I cut on my box call and he gobbled 75 yards away! I got my gun up and waited. Nothing! I tried purring and making soft putts and still nothing. He never came in or revealed himself.

Day 2 and I was back in the same spot. I didn't hear or see a thing.

On day 3 I needed a change so I blinded up in a field that was freshly burned. I saw 3 turkeys in the field the day before but couldn't tell what they were. I had a little action and had 2 gobblers work around me as they worked through the burn. They never got close so I tried to circle around them and cut them off. They stopped gobbling and I lost their direction.

I adjusted slightly for the final day and set up in the area that the 2 gobblers came from. They had different thoughts and were never seen or heard.

It was a tough hunt. I'm hopeful for my special opportunity hunt in a couple weeks in an awesome area. Can't wait to get back out there!
