Peacock bass fishing is the CRAZE in South Florida, and for good reason. These South American Exotic fish thrive in warm tropical climates, and they have called South Florida home for more than 30 years. If your an artificial lures only angler, Peacock bass should be on the very top of your list of freshwater fish to target. Peacocks are extremely aggressive, and violent strikers. Knocking top water lures 3 feet into the air is a common sight.

There are a host of artificial lures that anglers can use to specifically target peacock's and one of these lures should be the prop bait. These top water lures have been around for quite awhile, they come in an array of different brands, sizes, colors, and prop styles.

Prop baits will make a distinctive ZIPPING sound when worked on top of the water. The type of zipping sound is all determined by the angler. Work the prop bait softly, and you will hear a soft zip, work the prop bait aggressively, and you will see and hear an aggressive zip.

When it comes to Peacock bass fishing, an angler must experiment with different types of ZIPS to draw a strike. Trust me, you will know when you found the right ZIP, because the blow up will be hellacious!!  ~bb ~bb

Thank you for reading, and get ZIPPING!!  ;)

I remember watching shows back about 20 or so years ago of anglers fishing for peas on the Amazon river.
The only baits those guides would throw were big prop baits. They would rip that bait hard 2 or 3 times let it sit and repeat.

Another thing I noticed was that they "tuned" the blades a little so It made that zipping sound Lou is talking about.

The old woodchopper prop bait was a favorite back then. BPS started making their own knockoff that was cheaper and that also became a go to.

I would love to fish for peas one day.

There is nothing in freshwater like a peacock bite.  It is usually violent, with a few long runs, then you see it go airborne several times, and you know it's not a black bass.  A decent size pea is a special animal! ~heart ~heart ~heart
