Thanks to the help of Mike Cork and a few other UB members.. I was pointed in the direction of the DX795FLIP for a new pitching / flippin setup that will double as a deep work / FB Jig rod. I can tell you that I already love it just having it in hand toy around the shop. It has that Champ Extreme light tip with from I can tell the normal deep storng back bone thorugh out the rod. Pumped to start flipping some grass around the Midwest this summer.

I have paired this with a Shimano Curado K and my question is.... What line do you all typically pitch with when around medium to medium-heavy vegetation? My initial thoughts are straight 50 lb braid, 40lb Braid to 20lb Copoly Leader or straight 25lb fluoro.

What do you all think?

I would prob stay with at least 50lb or even 65. I have that rod and it has enough of a moderate action it doesn't rip hooks out.

That being said I've never had good luck with flouro over 20lbs. Just seems to get "kinky" and using line conditioner doesn't always work.

Great rod overall!

Would you go straight 50 - 65lb braid? Does water clarity play a factor for you at all?

BassmanRudy

No it doesn't. I do believe in sharpieing my line black the last few feet but also have yellow braid on my punching reel so I can easily see the line stop!

I don't know if they can see any of it at all the grass but I know I can't see the black line!

I use straight 50 pound braid, like Rudy I've stepped up to 65 when it gets thick. I don't worry about water clarity, the grass you are punching will break up the lines visibility. If you are still concerned I've been known to take a sharpie and color a foot, then skip a foot, then color a foot and so on for many feet. This also helps break up the line's perception in the water.

Flipping and pitching, 50lb straight braid for me, no leaders in this application.

Smallie_Stalker

Straight braid for me too with no leader. I just go with 65 lb. on all my jig and frog setups to keep things simple.

I'm not a believer in the line color scares fish mindset. I went to all hi-viz line with no leader years back. I fish gin clear glacial lakes where you can see which side of a dime is up in 30 feet of water and I have never noticed any difference in my catch rates. Fish aren't that smart. Why would they chase a chartreuse fluke for instance but be afraid of chartreuse line?

But I realize this is a personal preference thing so not intended as argumentative to anyone who disagrees.

Just my $.02
