I have a 2019 Evinrude Etec G2, Winter storage procedures call for the engine to be stored in a vertical position.  After I've done that, I've returned to check on the boat to find the engine has on its own continued downward movement until the skeg touches the ground.  I don't think that is supposed to happen and now I wonder what happens when
I'm on the water; does my tilt control hold?  Currently have an engine support holding the engine up but not in the vertical.  Apparently, Evinrude factory doesn't take questions but simply refers you to a dealer.  Haven't tried contacting one of them yet.  I don't want to drag my boat out of storage to take to a dealer.

Yeah, your trim is leaking down. It would still be considered "vertical". Good luck with the Evinrude support. I'm afraid those days are finished.

As Dale said, your trim is leaking down and it shouldn't hurt anything. Leaking down is more of an issue when you're running. I'd put a piece non-conductive material like plastic or a small piece of plywood under the skeg for protection.

D.W.  You are right about Evinrude support.  Can't directly contact the corporate website and the dealer that did my 3-year service doesn't answer the phone or return my calls.

Sorry Bob. I wish you the best.

I just deleted two more paragraphs that were of no help to this topic, and can be summed up in two words (please note that I sold boats and motors for twenty years)-

Evinrude sucked.

You can always give my friend Jack a call. Jack's family has been a Stratos Boats and Johnson/Evinrude dealer for over 40 years. He's third generation mechanic and owns Addington Boat and Camper. Jack has been trained by the best and knows more about Evinrude/Johnson than BRP ever did. (276) 964-4927

They don't have much in the way of support from BRP other than warranty claims, but can still get parts, and Jack can repair just about anything rude and does it right the first time. A friend of mine down in Alabama recently brought his boat 6 hours North, to Jack to be worked on after all of his so called "Evinrude mechanics" struck out on his G2. Jack sent him home very happy.

Talked to the Evinrude dealer that did my 3-year service.  He says there's probably some air in the line.  He said to bring the boat around when I'm ready to un-Winterize and he'll fix it on the spot.

Does it "whine" when trimming? A lot of times you can hear that air. There will be a little "hitch" and some extra noise from the system.

I didn't notice any unusual noise, but I really wasn't paying attention.  It would have had to have been very loud or annoying for me to notice.  I only realized the problem when I had winterized and put the engine in the vertical position, then removed power.  The engine didn't immediately drop.  I discovered the engine had moved down own its own the next day.
