Capt. BassinLou

We took a road trip for the weekend, and the place we were staying at had a concrete dock on a freshwater lake/canal system. I brought along a fishing combo with me, and fished a bit in morning and evenings.

Yesterday evening, the bite was hot!! My daughter was hanging out with me, and I took advantage of the moment to teach her bite detection. I told not to worry about the casting part, since it was a bait caster, plus she has 0 experience fishing with one.

I had identified a hydrilla patch in a certain spot 35 yards out, and the bass were keyed on this patch. There were seveveral teaching points I focused on. Palming the reel,, hooksetting, bite detection, and distinguishing grass versus a bite. These  points are very challenging to teach to a novice, but nonetheless my daughter was determined to catch a fish.

After several missed attempts (the bite was that good!!). My daughter connected with 3 bass!! I'm so proud!! :)

That's awesome :toot: rare opportunity for all things to collide (along with a young'ns attention), she'll be a boat partner in no time.

That is awesome Lou.
Let her practice with the baitcaster for a few hours, she'll quickly pick it up. I remember my daughter learned it quickly and now she says they are easier to use than spinning reels.

A memory she will never forget!  Nice work Bassinlou!  She will remember that and smile about that memory long after you are gone, and you may have also just started someone else on the addiction of bass fishing.
