Wellp looks like LA legislation is going to vote on RAISING state fishing/hunting licenses soon!! Please contact your local representative and ask WHY!! The article linked doesn't say "HOW MUCH" it will possibly go UP but give an inch take a mile... I'm sure it will "pad pockets" more than kill salvinia or repair boat row markers or kill wild nutria/hogs...

Sorry to hear they are doing that. I had a rare opportunity a little while back, and I went ahead and purchased the lifetime license. Yes, it was a chunk of change, but it offsets for those "government" increases down the line.  :-*

I actually asked about this at the meeting we had with WL&F. They spoke of so many budget constraints when it came to everything from stocking to salvinia (Salvinia money actually comes from a different fund). But they haven't raised the 9 dollar license in a very long time.

Probably won't happen anyway. The head WL&F guy from Baton Rouge said that it always fails in legislation because the bureaucrats want to be re-elected and everyone hunts and fishes so they are scared to raise hunting or fishing licenses for fear of losing their jobs.

I'd gladly pay much more (and have in various states) if it goes to the right places. The brief conversation I had with them, they have big plans for helping lakes from launch ramps, stocking, studies, new lakes, heck more law enforcement officers are needed. It's not just because, but your concerns are valid. Louisiana has a bad brother-in-law program, money just doesn't make it where it's supposed too.

I 100% agree with ya Mike if we KNEW that it would go to "abc" and NEVER get taken away or used for "my brothers pet project" then heck yeah go ahead and raise it to $15 or so.

But like we see with the over $0.60 we pay in gas taxes that DON'T go to our ROADS I bet it gets redirected...

As much money as I spend on fishing tackle etc., I don't mind paying for a license, and it's $27.50 a year where I live.

BassmanRudy

A license is usually the cheapest part of what we do I'll agree. I do fish in multiple states so that does add up quickly though. And here in our part of LA there are 2 lakes within 10 miles of each other that require ADDITIONAL permits to fish that add another $45-100 alone! Still don't know how they justify that...

Just on the two lakes, One is City owned and the other is privately owned. That's how they get away with the permit requirements.

City owned but Not maintained lol... watched an old man fall off the loading dock last year due to the ladder not being secured. Lucky he wasn't seriously hurt.

We all know who's getting paid for the other lake!!

agreed, that guy should have sued the city. If nothing else but to get them off their ass to fix the place.

purchased a lifetime Nebraska license just before I left.  $400.  that was in 2014.  been back fishing once.  figure it was my 'gift' on the way out the door.here in TN, a yearly 'pass' is high $30's with 'other special' licenses for all kinds of things.  the one I get each year gives me access to some smaller 'county' waters... so in for just under $50/year.GA licenses, AL licenses on top of this.
now the part that really 'rankles'?  TN offers a lifetime hunting/fishing license.  won't split it out.  so the total on that bad boy is $1800.  that won't happen until I win the lottery I guess...but in less than 10 years, I'll get to transition 'down' the cost structure as 'an old guy of 65 years'.
figure out how much I leave out there in the course of a year in plastic, hooks and tungsten...licenses are not my biggest spend.

I wish our fishing license was reasonable by the time i buy basic license then 2 rod stamp my sturgeon card and my steelhead card its 86.46
basic license is 52.66

BassmanRudy

I wish my parents had thought of a lifetime license for me as a kid!! I bought 1 for my niece and it was like $250 or so and that was fishing/hunting/saltwater!!

Right now if I do basic LA- 9.50 which is dirt cheap; 1 permit lake- 20; 2d permit lake 25; on base 15. That's just freshwater.

I dunno how the Pros do it fishing 15-20 different states a year and all as "non resident" as well!

7-day license and it's tax deductible would be one strategy I might think of.

Maybe!

I would love to have a central license site where each additional State can be added for just $10-20 a year after your original home State fee.

I wouldnt mind if the license fee was raised as long as we see where the money is going.  Not sure about these days, but I remember alot of the money for fishing/hunting license's seemed to be spent mainly in the southern part of our great state and we up in the northern parts were neglected.  As far as the private lake that was brought up, the fees have become a joke.  Since I live close to the lake, I bought the sticker that includes launching fees, even though I like to launch in the park from time to time and have to pay the entrance fee.  Have yall been to the public launch?  You had better hope you dont know your axel out of line when you go to launch.  Also, you cannot even launch inside the park still.  First in due to COVID, even tho the launch is open air, and now its due to contractors working on electric.  I do know there is a youth tournament there this weekend and some get to launch in the park.  I guess its all about who you know.

Just wanted to bring this back up so we are all informed and can call or write our representatives as needed.

I spoke with Judge here on the forum, yes he's a judge, and he told me that the committee on this has sent a proposal to the house floor which doubles the current hunting and fishing licenses. For me who just fishes, that's not horrible, but for someone who needs a freshwater and saltwater license and then hunts and needs all the tags to go with it, it's going to get very expensive.

As I said before I would be okay with an increase but a 100 percent is crazy. My major concern is if we don't speak up they will raise it every year. Let your reps know.

Not My State, but I enjoyed reading the comments.

The TRUTH is although we don't want to admit it, the Numbers Show that Hunters are becoming a Smaller and Smaller portion of the People and don't have the Pull we used to.

PA when I was a Kid was like $16.00 for a Fishing License and $12.50 for a Hunting License. They covered everything.

Then came the Archery Stamp. Then the Muzzleloader Stamp. Then the Trout Stamp. Then the Bear Stamp. Doe Stamp, etc........

It all starts to add up. One of my Cousins that really likes to hunt told me he's at about $75-80 a year now if he gets all the "stamps". At least the State Owned Game Lands are FREE to use for EVERYONE and they have Millions of Acres.

Here in Fl it's about $17-18 for both a Hunting or Fishing License. Or a a Combo for about $30.

Management Areas (State Run Lands) need a $25 Stamp to Hunt or Fish on, but you can Ride your Horse or Walk on for free???? And During Hunting Season???? And Most need a Special Permit they give out by Lottery that you must have to Hunt on it.

So you can have applied and won the Draw and be set up to Hunt after scouting out a spot and here comes Sally and Jane with the Kids out Riding and talking about everything as loud as they can and Ride their Horses right past where you are set up and there is nothing you can say or do about it. Tough, Deal with it.

They do offer a Sportsman License for about $75 that gives you all the Extra Permits (Deer Turkey Management etc) and FRESHWATER Fishing.

A GOLD Sportsman gives All the Fresh PLUS SALTWATER Fishing and Permits for about $100.00

Best Deal you can do here is buy your Kids or Grandkids a Lifetime License as Young and You Can. Starts at about $400 and goes up as they age.

So at the $9.00 or Even the $18.00 Price Range you guys are getting one Heck of a good Deal.
