What are the pro's and con's of the standard Merc 4-stroke vs the Merc Pro XS 4-stroke?  a friend of mine is selling his 2018 Nitro Z-18.  It has a 2018 standard Merc 4-stroke, 150 HP.  Just wondering about this motor compared to the Pro XS 4-strokes?

I'm not sure but I think someone knowledgeable will be along to answer this.

I haven't torn these motors down but have been told that the Pro XS has carbon fiber reeds versus traditional, extra hardened pistons and is electrically tweaked to give a faster hole shot and maybe a little more top end.

Are you missing out if you go with just a 4 stroke versus a Pro XS four stroke. I wouldn't think so.

I talked to my mechanic and he says that if you take the cowlings off and run them apples to apples you can't tell the difference.

You will be crazy happy with the standard motor.

Mike, something clicked in my puny brain after checking this topic out, so I just re-read what you wrote. Reeds. REEDS?!?

Mike your talking about Optis not 4S. The Proxs Optis had Carbonfiber Reeds and were tweeked a bit for a better hole shot. Top end is or was supposed to be the same or within 1-2 MPH.

The 4S looked to be a different Motor to me. The Original Ones had a bigger Cowl and different look. I think where they went Full On 4-Stroke they re-designed everything. The New Ones are sweet motors.

There are also 3 different lower options depending on the HP.  The 250 ProXS typically comes with a Tourqe Master but can come with the other two.

A 150 probably only has one option.
