Uh... oh!!

Man I hate to here that... Any deets on cylinder or reeds yet?

I've put down two of my nine lives with mine. First time I thought I blew-it turned out it was just the blower and the filter screen caught all the pieces. So bolts and $800 and I was good.

More recently (last month) I thought I blew-it, loud bang, sounded horrible when I came out of it, and didn't have any power, limping it in and she locked up and died... turns out the lower unit was soooo bad it locked her down...

Good luck on the repair. My prayer for you is your mechanic has the parts. It's been the hold up on repairs... turning the wrenches isn't the problem it's getting the replacement parts, especially if you are going OEM... makes for a good excuse to build a little extra with some after market pieces. You could shorten those river runs with some extra speed... :-*

I hate to hear that. Maybe it's time for a new motor. After all, it's for the business and a tax deduction. :-*

Rumor is there is an extra hole in the head....

Still haven't heard from the lead wrench Turner.  I may looks for a crate power head.  A new 4 stroke was in the plans but not this week's plans.

Dave is going to wander over there tomorrow and figure out exactly what happened and get a best plan of attack.  I'm back to leaving at 5 am and getting home at 7 pm 4 days days week for the next few weeks so everything I do has to be over the phone for now.

I'll keep yall posted.

I never thought about tweaking the motor since it's dead anyway.

Any ideas?

This is the truth. Mine has been in the shop for 2 months now waiting on 1 part.

Been there and done that. It sucks. A good tech is a great help. Sadly, I lost mine last October.

That almost looks like the crank bearing went and let the piston hit it. Or like Dale said the piston ring is inside it...

As far as tweaking... the sky is the limit. But you can bore it out a little bigger for more CID, use a modified head to increase CID, if you do that you'll need to look at the crank and reed valves as well. With the exception of boring the cylinders the majority of horse power is bolt on. But racers will tell you that there comes a point when, one mile per hour will cost you about a thousand dollars  :surrender:

A little bottle of NOS might be fun  ~bb

Gotta be careful on tournament regulations though. Anything over power can get you in trouble and any BASS sanctioned event has a 250 HP limit.

Yep.  Bottom came apart, smashed the plug and then something punched a hole in the block next to the starter.

You plan to ever sell it?

If you do you'll get a better price with a 4S on it than the Opti.

Good discussion on BBC with a Guy that has a Complete Rebuilt Opti 250 asking what it is worth. He
decided to go with a new 4S after paying to have the Rebuild done. The Average Answer is he will be LUCKY to get $8000 for it. He was thinking of asking $14-16,000.

Reports are that Boat Sales with any motor other than a 4S are giving them away. No matter how good the motor is Buyers are considering them "old tech" and the New 4S are all the deal.

FD

My motor as it sits us worth $2000 for parts.  If I spend 7-8k on it then it's worth $6-7k of I was to sell it a year from now,.  That math doesn't add up to me if I plan to upgrade to a 4S in the future.

I'll never sell that boat.  It will go to Josh if I buy another boat. So, now I'm just waiting to see how much the 4S Pro XS is and if there is even one available.

FD, going rate here in the carolinas is $20,870. for 250 Pro XS 4 Stroke.  Price for motor only Anglers Choice Marine is showing 2 in stock.  They are one of the largest Merc dealers in our neck of the woods.  They are located in Martinsville, Va.   I am sure you will be able to get one down your way.

As much as I love my Opti's, if I ever play this game again it will be with a four stroke. No doubt. Dealer cost two years ago (yep, inside info) was around 17K. That's just a motor in a box, I don't know about support hard/software etc. I do know I've seen them listed for $22-$24,000. Total B.S. I saw the Merc price list.

The initial quote this morning was under $22k out the door.  I told them to order one.  I'll get the final numbers and time frame Monday.  They are saying 2-4 weeks and I'll have it back.
