I did search for this and didn't see what I was looking for so if I missed it I apologize.

I like to use ul gear and I like old stuff, so I thought for 2021 I'd try fishing with some vintage ul spinning reels. I picked up a couple D.A.M. Quick 110 reels recently and one of them arrived today.  I like it.
I also have some old half bail spinning reels from Mitchell, Record, and Airex. Not "ul", but I will probably get them out at some point. They all work properly, even the anti-reverse. They definitely need a good cleaning
I'm sure they don't match up to the new stuff, but does anyone else use these old reels for fun? I'd love to hear your stories and see your pictures.
When I get my stuff together and the weather warms up I'll post pics and info on my use of these old reels, and hopefully pics of a fish or 2.

I still have the first rod my dad gave me in the mid 60's. It is a metal buggy whip rod with a direct drive casting reel and dacron line on it. Somewhere I also have a spinning reel from that same time period that has a bail wire but no line roller.

Depending on a variety of factors I may be able to dig it out and use them some next year.  :-*

Hey abzack1,  I have two spools that fit your QUICK 110 in a custom wood box.  Text me if you are interested in them and I'll drop you some photos. 360-703-4756

That's awesome. I do not have the first setup my Dad gave me unfortunately. I do remember having a metal rod, but I think that was with an old bait caster that I never could get the hang of.  Then he gave me a spinning setup with a Mitchell reel.  I remember that because my Dad only used Mitchell for spinning reels. Post some pictures if you dig them out. Definitely let me know if you take them out fishing. Good times.

My half bails aren't numbered. I just picked up a 304, waiting for it to come in the mail. What model(s) are you using? Do you have any pictures? Does the clicking bother you at all? Sorry for all the questions.

I think that Richard Gene The Fishing Machine on YouTube pulls out some tad older reels and rods at times. He is funny  entertaining at times also.

Hey Steve. Thanks for the heads up. I haven't seen it, but I'll definitely check it out.

He is something else. He catches fish. I saw one episode he used some old lures. Then I saw him fishing with Jimmy Houston. How have I not seen Mr. Gene before? Definitely entertaining. Thanks again for the recommendation Steve.

No problem. Yeah he's a character. But he does slay some fish while being entertaining.

I wanted to share what I've put together to fish with this year.  I decided to go with D.A.M. Quick 265/110 reels. I like the size and feel. Everything I've read says these are quality.  I like Fenwick rods and I have "a few" in the rod holder, so I put the 110 on a Fenwick. For the 265 I decided to try a Berkley Cherrywood HD. I've read mixed reviews on this rod, but I like the new old school feel to go with this reel. I think they pair well, but we'll see when I get it out on the water.
I took the 110 out yesterday. It was cold out and I don't think the 110 likes the cold. It will take a little getting used to, but I feel like it's going to be a lot of fun.

D.A.M. Quick Microlite (265) (1961-1967) on Berkley Cherrywood HD CWD2 561ULS with J-Braid X4 8lb (0.13) and 10mm speed clip.

D.A.M. Quick 110 (1967-1974) on Fenwick HMX56UL-MFS with J-Braid X4 8lb (0.13) and 10mm speed clip.

Lures will be mainly 1/8 - 1/32oz and a couple 1/4oz, including jitterbugs and tiny george in various colors. A lot of different jigs with 2-3" soft baits, some light crank baits, and a bunch of little spinners.

I'm adding 1 more combo to fish with this year. I picked up this old Garcia Mitchell 304 for about $15. It's showing it's age, but it's mechanically solid. The drag and anti-reverse work. I put it on a Fenwick HMX-S53L-M. I can't wait to fish it.

Now that the weather is starting to warm up I'll start posting updates to this thread when I can get out and do some fishing.
There is a man made 36 acre pond/lake fairly close to the house. It is stocked with bass, crappie, trout, and tiger muskie. My Son and I have caught some nice bass out of there.
Friday was sunny and 50s-60s after a week of 60s-70s. I took a DAM Quick 110 on a St Croix 6' UL and a Garcia 304 on a St Croix 6' ML. No bass on this outing, but it was nice to finally get out and throw some lures. Both setups cast well and I had no issues with either. Unfortunately I forgot my phone in the truck so I couldn't get any pictures if I had caught a bass.
For future updates I'm going to try to actually catch some fish and remember my phone to get pictures.
