I'm working on setting up a 7" magnum fluke rod and am debating between a few rods.

Dobyns DX 745 C

Kistler Helium3 6'9" MHXF

I currently am not using my brand new DX 745 C, so I'm looking for a use for it.  I haven't even put a reel on it before.  I don't have many heavy rated rods, as I mostly do finesse to mid range power fishing.

The bait and hook weighs about 3/4 or a little better depending on the hook.  I don't normally throw the magnum size fluke.

Thoughts?

Do you own both rods already?  If so experimnting with each would be your best option IMO. If not, and since you already have a rod that will do the job why spend the extra money?

I've never fished a Kistler so I can't speak for that rod. The Dobybs DX 745 C will handle that weight range no problem, and the exra length will help you drive the hook home on long distance hooksets.  :-*

Yes, I own both rods already.

I got the DX 745 C from Gary on a rod swap about a month before I got the Xtasy 755 C, so I never used it.  Once I got the Xtasy 755 C, I started using it for jigs and never looked back.  I'll try the DX 745 C, since it will handle the weight.  I'm afraid the Kistler might get overwhelmed.

The Kistler is my travel jig rod and I really like it for that, so it's probably best I keep it that way.
